Peter, on the premise this is new to you and you didn't buy it with stuff you want to keep ...

It may not be mounting/showing up because it's not formatted -- the computer may be seeing it, but it's not capable of reading it, or there's a problem.

This runs off USB, not eBay, ports -- and, as you say, does not need an external power supply.

If you're on Windows XP or Windows Vista, you'll typically want to reformat to "NTFS" ... the default specifications, if you're given an option, will work fine.

On second glance ... We may need some more details about what computer you have and what you want to do with it. If there's a possibility this is, er, "Formac", but you may be sharing between a PC and a Mac, you'll want to format to FAT32 (Mac just calls it FAT or xfat, if memory serves). If this is only for your Mac, go into Disk Utility and format the thing as the first choice in the Mac disk types ... non-case sensitive and journaled, if memory serves.

HP Pavilion power problem?

The power is coming to System , but its not getting supplied to other hardware devices via motherboard.

The Problem can be with your motherboard.

Try removing the Auxilary port wire ,which is a small wire which is connected near the FAN , the wire comes from SMPS(power supplier) to the motherboard.

hope this helps

My Dell inspiron 518 will not turn on when power button is pressed. Green LED on back of power supply lights and orange LED on motherboard turn on. No fan operation on anything. Thinking it is the switch...

Green LED on PS means it's getting AC power. Orange light on motherboard means it's receiving power from PS but it may not be the correct voltage. The power supply isreceiving power from the source but is unable to properly distribute it to thecomponents. This can be caused by a defective power supply or a defectivemotherboard. Just to make sure that nothing else is causing the problem, removeany PCI cards like modem, video card, sound card, etc... Remove the memorymodules and disconnect cables to CD/DVD drives. Look at the USB ports to see ifany are damaged.

Bought internal harddrive and don't know where 7-pin SATA port is on motherboard, or Sata power connector is from PC.

hi, sorry to tell you this but that model of dell desktop does not have sata ports or sata power connectors and has no spare drive bays to mount the hard drive either , you would be best to try and return the drive and purchase an external hard drive and connect it to your PC via the usb socket .
Hope this helps

External Hardisk Maxtor 4 One Touch not detected

Have you tried different USB cables with the drive? If the drive is self powered (no ext power supply) which I think that one is, then it needs a really good cable to draw the 5 volts from the USB port. If you have tried a known working cable, then it could be the USB controller or the disk itself. You can buy the USB box on eBay really cheap and move the drive over.

I have just bought a digital photo frame. The necessary software that comes with it is on a 'mini' CD. I have an Acer box that you normally just push an ordinary CD into. I cannot get it to take the...

Dear Kayty -

Unfortunately, the "slot" cdrom drives are not intended for use with the mini CDs. However, there are a few options; Cheapest and easiest would be to go to the Digital Photo Frame manufacturer's web site and download the software - more often than not, all of the necessary drivers and utilities can just be downloaded and installed from the net.

Otherwise, you might consider purchasing an external cdrom drive, generally costing between 30 and 60 bucks new, that would connect to your computer via USB cable. Maybe you've considered buying a CD or DVD Burner for your computer? Either one would work for installing the software from a mini-cd.

Here's a link to an external CDRW drive on ebay to give ya an idea:

Hope this helps ya!

Bought an optical mouse today when i turn off the computer it still stays lite. how do i fix this.item #81250NS

The model of mouse (SAKAR 81250NS) you have has fancy external lighting, but should get its power from the computer's PS2 port , so unless the mouse has its own internal battery for keeping itself lit up, your computer is not actually turning off, but perhaps just going into power save mode. I am not that familiar with that mouse brand, but to check if it has its own internal battery, shut down the computer all the way and then unplug the computers power cord. If the mouse still is lit up, then your computer is not the problem.
