You only can safely use an original Canon power cord when you want to charge the batteries in the camera. That can be expensive. Why not buy an normal battery charger, to charge the two batteries outside the camera.
I know it looks convenient charging in the camera, but I charge all my batteries in external chargers. Is also much safer for the camera.
I f you don't have a charger for the camera, you would need to purchas a separate charger for the batteries by themselves. They are usually fairly reasonable to charge AA and AAA batteries. (Not sure what yours takes since you did not mention the model.)
If you search Amazon for your model number and the word "charger" you will find compatible chargers, but you can also find universal chargers on there quite cheaply ($4) that will charge all the small lithium batteries used by cameras and phones.
You can find a new charger by searching for your camera's model number (add the word "charger") on Amazon, but it might be better to get one of the "universal" chargers instead. There are several makes of these, that will charge any of the small lithium batteries used in cameras and phones, so you won't have this problem again. And the universal chargers are often cheaper than the ones dedicated to a single battery type.
If your camera came with a charger for the battery, then it is unlikely that it will charge from the USB lead.
The A430 is a camera, not a battery charger. If you want to use rechargeable batteries then you must use a separate charger. Battery chargers should be available at just about any department, electronics, or office-supply store.
