Question about Asrock ConRoeXFire-eSATA2 (CONROEXFIREESATA2R2) Motherboard

1 Answer

Hi, I have recently upgraded from XP to Vista 32bit SP1 and I am having problems using my soundblaster X-fi card. On boot, windows reports new hardware found and asks for the install disk. when I run the SB set up, it tells me it can not see any compatible device in the machine and quits! This is inconsistant though as sometimes it will appear to complete successfully, however I am still unable to get sound. I have tried updating the original (XP) drivers to vista compatible ones but still no joy..... anyway, a colleague suggested upgrading the bios. I have v1.7 on a ConRoeXfire-eSATA2 board and I found v2.00 on the web. I downloaded this and ran the installer and now my machine is stuck in a loop. It goes through boot (I can get to F2 and F8) and ends up at the page offering load these options - Safe Mode :- - with Networking - with Command Prompt - Enable boot logging - Enable low res vid - Last known good config - directory services restore mode (domain controllers only) - Debugging mode - Disable auto restart on sys failure - Disable drive sig enforcement Start Windows normally. Can anyone help me get my machine out of this loop please?

Thanks Guys. I got so fed up in the end with Vista, having downloaded all updated and appropriate drivers from both Microsoft and Creative, that I reformated the drive and went back to XP! Now I have my soundcard working again and no issues with my other devices either. Vista may look pretty slick, but in reality it is far from it. Come on MS, get it sorted! You charge us enough for your products, at least make them hassle free. Thanks for your help.

Can you disable auto restart on sys failure and write down the error message you get?

Vista is picky about changes in hardware so it might believe you've "transferred" it to another PC.

In many cases the hardware will not work under windows vista, although it appears to find the hardware and load the drivers etc. You may get some satisfaction by going to the website for the soundcard and looking for drivers for the card particular to vista. However it still may not work, this is a vista problem however and is one of hundreds microsoft need to sort.

Problem installing Vista SP1 on Asus G2s

If you tried to install Vista on the Primary drive and formatted the primary HDD your Factory Recovery Partition , most likely has been written over, it's gone. Choose one or the other , Vista or Win 7, start from the beginning, install a clean Vista load, formatting in the installation procedure, form a Vista Installation DVD, follow instructions, boot up, do ALL the Vista Updates, it will take hours of updates, rebooting, updates, rebooting. You will get to the Service Pack's 1 and 2, in 24 hours or so. Put on a pot of coffee and be patience. If you prefer Windows 7 use the same procedure.

It still may be that Windows doesn't use the drivers from the updates.I have a similar setup for sound and had to go to Altec to get the drivers needed for my Vista Ultimate, which you would think could "find" the driver neccessary....BUT NO.Also,,this might be dumb, but are you plugged into the right "hole" on the sound card, presuming you have a new card.I made the same mistake when I put in a SoundBlaster system and plugged in the wrong one.D'ooooh

How to dual boot Vista and XP (with Vista installed first) -- the step-by-step guide with screenshots

UPDATED | Got a Vista PC and want to install XP so you can dual-boot between them? Here's how to do it, in an easy, step-by-step format. Page 1 - Intro
media_1221353917454.jpg
Scenario: You want to install Vista on your PC alongside your XP installation, on the same drive. You have installed Vista already. (If you have XP installed first, check out our earlier tutorial on how to dual boot Vista and XP with XP installed first.)
Tutorial Summary: We need to shrink the Vista partition on the hard disk and create enough space for an installation of XP. This can be done in three ways - using the GPartEd Live CD, the DISKPART utility on the Vista DVD or the Vista Disk Management GUI - and we'll cover all three. We'll then install XP and install EasyBCD to reinstate the Vista bootloader which will be overwritten during the XP installation, and then use EasyBCD to configure Vista's bootloader to boot the XP partition.
Updated September 2008: This is an updated tutorial, based on our first Windows Vista/XP dual-booting workshop. The main differences are that we are now using Windows Vista SP1 and Windows XP SP3. EasyBCD has also been updated and this makes some of the steps in our first tutorial redundant - the whole process is now easier.
This tutorial has been tested on a VMWare 6 Workstation.

KWorld ATSC 310U on Windows Vista 32bit Problems

Hi, the real problem here is VISTA, despite Microsofts hoopla this program is not as good as faithful old XP. The driver base is almost empty and a whole host of software and hardware just will not work with it. I reccomend you go back to XP until Microsoft releases a service pack with driver updates and then upgrade to VISTA. Regards mistyman
