When I close the lid of my Lenovo T60p laptop there is a snapping or clicking noise when it is about halfway down. Should I be worried about the connection to the screen breaking?

If the snapping sound comes from the lid it can be one of the springs inside the lids gone out of place.

Depending on the model there may be some danger of damaging the LCD ribbon cable, that usually is rolled inside the lid. However, the cost for fixing the lid is more or less the same of the cost for repairing a broken LCD ribbon cable.

If there is no additional problem, I would leave the laptop like it is, and repair it only if the ribbon gets damaged.

When i turn on my lenovo 5000 y500 laptop very slow booting takes place

There are so many reasons can cause a Lenovo computer running slow at boot up, it is hard to identify just what might be dragging down your Lenovo's performance, let alone implement the necessary technical adjustments to fix it.

So if you want to address the issues more easily, I'll recommend you try a Lenovo speed up software, available here: http://www.speeduplenovo.com/

Over 10+ small utilities packed into one to help detect & fix all slowdowns in 1 click.

When i shut my laptop the tv i use as my monitor goes blank.

Right click the power icon in the system tray (should look like a little plug with a lightning bolt on it.)  Click on "adjust power properties."  Click on the "advanced" tab, then where it says, "When I close the lid of my portable computer," select "Do Nothing."

I just bought a docking station for my Dell laptop computer. How do I hook it up so I can keep the top closed and use my desk top monitor? I want to be able to turn on the laptop without opening the lid.

Well.. you'd still have to open the lid to turn it on, right? (because you didn't mention the model of your laptop, I don't know where the power button actually *is*)
You want to close it while it's on, without it hibernating or going to sleep...

Go to your control panel, then into power or power management (depending on your Windows version, because you didn't mention it)

Then have a look under the "advanced" tab where it asks "when I close the lid of my computer". Set that to "do nothing".

Now when you close the lid, the laptop screen should turn off, but the PC should keep running. I'm not sure if that will still turn your external monitor off though.

I think that is your best solution, other than hacking off the little button that senses when the lid is closed. =-]
