Question about Nikon Coolpix 4300 Digital Camera

1 Answer

Camera won't stay on; date/time won't stay set

Intermitant problem(s): When I turn on the camera, the lens comes out ... but then goes right back in. When I then shut it off it does the same thing. Also, the Date/Time won't stay set. Doesn't seem to matter whether I'm using direct power or a battery. I tried resetting all to "defaults." Your help will be greatly appreciated!

Re: Camera won't stay on; date/time won't stay set

Are you sure the lens is actually going all the way out? If there is debris in the zoom gearing it can cause the lens to stop extending which would in turn cause the camera to re-retract the lens and show an error. Other possible explanations are that the sensor which determines when the lens has reached full extension has failed, so the camera keeps extending the lens until it reaches the physical limit - and then behaves just as if there was a jam as described above. The fact that this occurs both when you power on and power off the camera leads me to think this may be the case. The loss of date and time settings is due to a dead backup battery. Check your manual to see if this is replaceable by you or if it requires disassembly. David Millier Advance Camera Repair

The date will not stay set. Every time we turn the camera on it opens with the date screen. We set the date and it then goes into shoot mode but the date is not set. All pictures are stamped with the...

to keep the date on, you have to leave the camera off with a charged battery for 24 hous to charge the inner battery that keeps date on. If this doesn´t solve the problem then is because the inner battery won´t charge anymore, but it will take pictures as normal without the date. To avoid this don´t leave the camera too long without use or with a worn battery.

Can't get the Date off the Pictures

First you have to go to the set up menu and set the correct time and date, then you can go back to the settings and select OFF for time and date. If you do not set the correct time and date , that default date stays in the picture.

Set date and time comes up every time i turn on camera

Try resetting your camera. In picture taking mode press menu. Go to setup, go up to reset, press right arrow, make sure reset is highlighted and press set.

Then TAKE OUT MEMORY CARD. Go back into menu, go to setup, go up to format, press right arrow and highlight format, press set. Input ur date and time again and then power off and back on. If that doesn't help then you have to send into repairs. 800-706-2534 and keep choosing option 2 and they will tell you where to send it.

Camera lens comes out and goes back in when I turn it on.

Sounds like the lens can't get into the proper position. Any possibility of damage to the lens?
