Kenmore Side-by-Side Fresh Food not cooling

I have a Kenmore 56541 Side-by-side refrigerator Model # 363-9565412. The Fresh Food side is not cooling at all, but freezer side appears to still be cold enough to keep food frozen.

What is causing this problem, and is there something I can try or do to get the fresh food side to cool again. I have exact same problem. Nine was working absolutely perfect, unplugged it and moved it bout 8ft. plugged back in, now food side not cooling but everything else is running perfect.

SOURCE: Fresh food section not maintaining cold temp

You're frozen up.  Defrost completely.  Then, clean your condenser.  Make sure to never leave open containers in the fridge...water condenses into ice.  If you still have problems, you may be low on gas.

SOURCE: Fridge not cooling

Hello.
The most common thing that happens while moving a frig is when moving it they put the dolly underneath the condenser fan housing and bend it into the fan causing the compressor to overheat before it has a chance to cool down everything. If this isn't the case then I will send you a list of things to check out. Let me know.

I will assume until you can confirm the model number is near Sears KENMORE ELITE, Model No. 10650594000 But I will need you to double check because Sears always uses a number different than the MFG.
For the moment I need you to remove some things from the freezer and remove the back panel covering the evaporator coils. Look for the coils to be frozen over. If so it could be the adaptive defrost control found inside the fresh food compartment part number 4388932
Or a problem with defrost thermostat or the defrost element. I am here to help, Just let me know, Sea Breeze

Every 8 to 10 hours for around 20 minutes the defrost timer (or in most newer models the electronic adaptive defrost control) will turn the defrost heater on to melt the built up ice. There is a defrost thermostat which prevents the heater from overheating the freezer by breaking the heater circuit when the temp reaches close to 32 degrees F. The entire cooling system shuts off during the defrost cycle and starts back when the timer advances through the cycle.

If this ice is not melted it will continue to build up until the air can’t flow over the coil to circulate the cold air through the freezer and into the fridge. The temperature change in the fridge is usually noticed first followed by the freezer.

If the defrost thermostat is bad it can prevent the heater from coming on OR it won’t turn the heater off when it gets too warm. It is clamped to the evaporator coil at the top to sense the temp. If it appears to be misshapen it is bad.
With an ohm meter it should show continuity when cold and none when warm.
You can also bypass the thermostat to see if the heater comes on then. If it does then you know the thermostat is bad and needs replaced.

The defrost heater is located on the evaporator. It is in a tube which is at the bottom and can also go up the sides of the evaporator. On some types you can see a burnt spot if it’s bad. With an ohm meter it should show continuity from end to end when disconnected from the wiring in the freezer. You can also test the wiring for voltage when it’s in the defrost mode.

If you have a defrost timer you can test it. It can be located under the fridge behind the kick panel on the front. Some are in the fridge with the controls at the top. You can turn the defrost timer till it clicks and everything shuts down. The heater should now come on. If it does, replace the timer because that means the timer is not running. If it doesn't, check the heater and defrost thermostat. Turn the timer again till everything starts back up to end the defrost cycle.

If you have an adaptive defrost control instead of a timer, replace it if the heater and thermostat test good. It is located in the fridge with the controls in some models and on the back in others.

Make sure this fan is running. You may have to hold the door switch in for it to run. There is a flap you adjust with the fridge temp. control. Make sure it's opening and closing when you adjust the fridge temp.
The problem could be the electronic control if you have one or the mechanical linkages.

Our 2 door stainless ken more refrigerator is not cooling but the freezer is working good. Thanks for your help

Your evaporator fan is probably not running. Another thing to check is your freezer port to fresh food side. If you freezer is blocking the air flow your fresh food side will not cool. Find the vent to fresh food side and see if you have air flow, if no air flow you need a new evaporator fan.

I have a Kenmore Model #363.9552410 that is not cooling properly. The coils undrneath were clogged so I cleaned them thoroughly. It is running better but having trouble cooling to 40 degrees or lowe

Check to see if the fan blade by the compressor has a lint build up on the blade. This could also cause poor performance. Make sure the controls are set to median settings if both controls are set to max this can shut off the air to the fresh food section. If there is a damper to the fresh food section it could be not opening.

What should the temp be for freezer and refrigerator?

dont know model, do know temps. The fridges highest temp is 5deg c, preferably between 1 and 4, if freezer goes above minus(-)18deg c your are in danger zone, there should be a regulator control in the fridge, usually on left or right hand side near front(door)

The refrigerator side of my kenmore refrigerator does not cool

Make sure the evaporator fan is operating. Since the fresh food side is cooled by the air flow from the freezer side. Check for blockage of the air duct from the freezer to the fresh food side. Set the temp control half way. Over adjusting this setting can cause problems with cooling. If I can help you any farther, let me know.
