Furnace tries to ignite

The hot surface ignition takes place gas valve opens the burners ignite they stay for a minute or two then go out. then this process starts over again it makes several atemps before the burners stay on and run through it's cycle

Furnace blinks seven times lockout do to retries will light up for 5 second then it turn off


7 blinks means unit is locked out it will stay locked out for one hour then try to light again it will try two times before lock out. Possible causes. Low gas pressure, Faulty gas valve, Faulty hot surface ignition or burner problem may cause this. Most common is Hot surface igniter.

(also called the gas valve) is the part that ensures that gas is not released until the igniter has reached the correct temperature needed to ignite the gas. While this part can fail, it is uncommon. If the hot surface igniter does not glow you should first verify that you have voltage to the circuit. This is a live voltage check and should be performed by a qualified person. If voltage is lost at the valve terminals then you should verify the continuity of the bi-metal in the valve using a multi-meter.

When i turn the heat up sometimes it takes a long time for the gas furnace to start ..why?


Watch your furnace when you turn the thermostat up...make sure to record everything that it is doing. If you have an induced draft, forced air system, then the heat sequence of order should go like this... Initial call for heat from tstat, Inducer vent motor turns on-pulls in the pressure switch, circuit board sends power to igniter whether it is spark or hot surface, then gas valve opens. Flame sensor senses flame, burner stays on, and blower motor kicks in to heat the space. If you notice any variance from this, then something needs to be checked by an HVAC Service Tech.

When the heat cycle calls for gas there is no ignition is my gas valve bad?


I don't know what kind of furnace you have. But most furnaces have some sort of pilot first than after it is proven than the main gas will come on. Either a standing Pilot with a thermocouple. A hot surface ignition or Spark ignition with a flame sensor. Or a direct fire system where hot surface or spark ignitor start first than all the burners send a 1 sec blast of gas which is proven by the flame sensor if it proves the gas valve stays on.....
In what you have said you have 24 volts to the gas valve and it has not lite. then does the gas valve have a pilot tube???Does it have a thermocouple?? Do you smell gas?? If you don't smell gas then the main part of the valve has not opened. The Pilot valve has to open first and prove before the main gas will come on. I hope this helps. Tempstar pilot turns off


Based on your model number this furnace does not have a pilot light,instead it uses a hot surface igniter.typically it glows and when it gets hot enough the gas valve will open and the burners will light.When the igniter starts to go bad it will glow but not get hot enough to open the gas valve.If your furnace lights and the quickly goes out the flame sensor maybe dirty.

RHEEM RGLE-10EQAGS Gas Furnace - Intermitent. Fans come on, Hot surface Ignitor comes on, then sometimes Gas Valve opens and all is fine, Other times, gas valve doesn't open and Hot surface Ignitor goes...


The sequence is Igniter comes on, valve comes on, flame sensor senses flame. If no flame is sensed after 3 tries, a lockout occurs. If you have a volt meter, check for 24-27 Volts AC coming to the gas valve, if your getting voltage to the valve but no gas, your gas valve is defective. It could be a intermittent problem, no matter, still a bad valve. if no voltage to valve, defective circuit board.

Carrier Gas Furnace and Hunter Thermostat not working


Definitely a furnace issue. The gas valve is not opening if you see no flame. I have seen the igniter glow but not send enough voltage to the circuit board to make the gas valve open. If this is the case you should replace the igniter. It is very fragile so please use care when replacing. Check all connections at the circuit board as well as the gas valve. Check your gas supply. Check to see if you get 24 volts AC to the gas valve. If no, replace the circuit board. If yes, replace the gas valve once you confirm that you have gas to it. If you get a pilot flame only, you will need to clean the burners and flame tray that spreads the flame from one burner to the next.

say that you have the glow bar (Hot surface igniter) working
if the flame starts make sure you don't trash on the orifice of the burner, you can try to use a piece of wire or someting small to pick on the orifice of the burner, also make sure is not rust bewteen the burners gap where the flame spread to all the burners because if the flame sensor don't feel flame don't stay light up

Rheem gas furnace pilot lights, but no burners or fan


If the burners do not fully ignite, the sensor will shut the furnace down. The lack of sufficient burner flame is a gas valve or gas pressure problem within the valve.
Replacing the gas valve with the original one may get you going. I surely suggest a professional service company for safety reasons and a thorough inspection. A 20 year old furnace is past it's normal life span.
