Burnt out heating element

Hi Guys, Well I have an Haier Protable dishwasher HDP18PA and the heating element is no longer alive. Its about 2yrs old and I have already had it worked on once and so far other than the heat it works fine. Can I order this and do it myself. Yes, I am fairly handy :) Haier is really a hasssle to deal with, takes a loonng time to get any help. If you could help in anyway it would be very much apprecated! Thanks, Karen

Yes, you may even be able to pick the part up as an in-stock item at your local appliance parts supply house. The place the local appliance repair pro's go to get parts.

Replacing the actual element is fairly easy. Its typically a few screws and two wires the simply disconnect via stakon connectors or a molex plug.

The "hard part" is actually getting to the elements mounts and wires. with most units you have to remove a panel or two, to get to the element housing and access the element.

The main thing? Make sure power is disconnected, and pay close attention to how everything comes apart and which direction each piece was originally installed.

It may help to get paper and draw yourself a diagram of the disassembly process.

I need an operators manual for this model dish washer. I bought it used and they did not have a manual

Hi,

I was just signing off for the night when I saw this. You can download your user manual free from here:

http://www.haier.com/admin/en/product/upload/HDP18PA-UM.PDF

Click the link and the manual will open in a new window, you can then print it or save it to your PC for future reference by clicking "File" in the top left corner of the browser window and then clicking on "Print" or "Save As...". If you are unable to open the file, you will also need to download the latest version of Adobe Reader:

The washing detergent is not released

Hi, I have this same unit and the same thing would happen to me too. I discovered that it was my dishes that were getting in the way of the detergent door. I'm sure you're are, but make sure that all your plates/bowls, etc, are pushed far enough back that they don't interfere with the poorly placed detergent door.

Heating element

  • Remove the screws on the back of the unit and take off the back two panels.
  • Facing the back, there is a thermostat toward the back-middle-right... it has a brass nut that holds it in place and two wires attached to it. (my wires were pink). Check this first: check the wiring here, and if you have a multimeter, check the continuity between the two terminals. It should be closed (conducting) when cold.
  • You should see the wires for the heating coil on the left side. If you have a multimeter, check the resistance across the left and right  terminals (the middle terminal with green wires is ground). If there is no continuity, the heater is dead.
  • Finally, the only other cause would be the relay (hidden off in the right-rear corner of the unit) or the control panel.
