Did you try to run defrag in Safe Mode?

To get into the Windows 2000 / XP Safe mode, as the computer is booting press and hold your "F8 Key" which should bring up the "Windows Advanced Options Menu" . Use your arrow keys to move to "Safe Mode" and press your Enter key.

When it get into safe mode , run the defragmenter.

Sounds like you have either a virus or malware affecting your PC - first run scandisk to make sure there are no physical problems with the disk - then download an anti-malware package like spybot S&D - this is free and you may be surprised what it finds on your system!
once this is done try defragging again -alternatively - convert your HD to NTFS and this will not only speed it up but reduce the need to defrag dramatically

hope this helps 8)

Navigate to your control panel, and then click Programs, next click to Turn Windows Features on or off. Once it is up and running uncheck Windows Media Center click OK. Go eat a 5 course meal now and don't for get desert. By the time you are done it will be done uninstalling.

Side note for ya, it takes forever for the list of items to load. Just wait though it will populate.

Another Side note for the IE hatters, don't hate, just uninstall IE using these directions.

How can i speed up my toshiba Sat pro a60 for free

first get yourself CCleaner. It is a free utility, then Defrage your computer. Shutdown and restart and see if thats running any better. Also if you feel froggy goto "run" type in msconfig then goto start up and disable any programs that are eating up resources that you dont neccissarly use. Also last but not least Download an antispyware like Spybot S-D which is a free programs and run that for a check to make sure nothing is taking up space.

How I can speed up my hp pavillion dv2000

First of all you need to figure out what might be hurting your HP's performance. There are a number of reasons that may causing your HP computer running slow, but generally two factors: outdated hardware or poor system maintenance. For hardware part: you can get more RAM, higher CPU etc. For system part: there might be a lot of junk files, caches, errors etc out there, about 80% slow HP issues are caused by this reason, in this case you can rely on http://www.speeduphp.com/ to free detect and fix related issues.

Did you really purge everything? Temporary files, log files, etc?
If not, the first thing to do is a disk cleanup. Get rid of everything (though compressing old files might take a very long time - sometimes it is not worth the trouble). Any temporary file will make windows explorer and internet explorer slower. Clean these regularly. Also, set your pagefile to at least 1,5 times the size of your RAM. And defrag your disk every once in a while.
Also, try to get "Free Registry Defrag" from the web and run it. It helps.
Oh, and a dusty machine is a slow machine. Vacuum its bowels.

There is option in BIOS called something about automated SATA recognition or similar - disable it. It is under System configuration. And if you are putting new drive in then run full test from BIOS (Hard drive selftest - takes about 79min.)
I tried to reinstall Windows Media center on my HP dv6000 because my previous hdd crashed - When I put in installation cd - it said that it can't find hdd. I spent week to figuring that out. The thing is - as far as you haven't disabled that SATA thing in BIOS - PC doesn't recognize hdd. But only with Windows media center edition. With all other windows xp - there is no such problems. Strange.
