How to set up a password so it's open for everyone to connect to it?
Go into the Linksys wireless setting and remove the WEP or WPA or WPA2 encryption. This makes your wireless router open to anyone to access your wireless network and Internet connection.
I would not recommend this, as it could cost you money when you exceed your download allocation.
I recommend you keep your encryption setting and only give the encryption key to people you want access to your wireless network and Internet connection.

you need to download the firmware first. click here.
make sure to select the exact model and version of it (look underneath the device for the exact model and version)
access the router's setup page by typing http://192.168.1.1 (this is the default ip address unless you have changed it to something else)
then you will be prompted to enter the username and password, don't type anything on the username and by default the password is admin
once you are on the router's page, go to the administration tab and click on firmware upgrade subtab
(Note: you need to take note of all the settings that were setup on the router since you need to reset after the upgrade)
browse for the firmware that you have downloaded and click on upgrade
once the upgrade is done, press the reset button of the router and reconfigure it with the settings that you have
hope this'll help you
ciao!

this sounds like security problems , other people have experienced problems with vista but most have been able to resolve them.
whilst connected to your router using an ethernet cable open a browser windows and type in the rounter address these
are usually one of 2 most likely yours is
192.168.1.1
and typing password as "admin" and no user name. Use your password if you have changed it earlier 2
Go to wireless tab. 3. Go to wireless security sub-tab 4. If security mode is wpa or wpa2 note down passphrase/shared key, if security mode is WEP note down wep key number 1. This will be your network key
also check other.
On the Vista laptop with the connection
Start --> Network
Click on Network and Sharing Center
if It shows a red X between my network and the Internet.
click on the Customize link (below and right of the red X)
Under location type if it was set to Public. change it
to Private. Hit Next
At that point my whole network might go down, and
reset the router. (turned off and turned on)
After that my red X under network and sharing center
was gone. And my internet connection problem was gone.
I forgot to mention that before you shoul have turned
off all software firewalls and virus scanners. prior.
if that does not work when you are logged into the router page 192.168.1.1 check to see if their is an option to update the router software/firmware ,if their is no option then you may have to manually downlaod the firmware from linksys and update that way .
Hope this helps if not ask for clarification on anything your unsure of.
