I wouldn’t over ride the clip or I think you might be talking about the plunger that is on the lid. Looks like a tounge depressor that pushes down the lid switch. Just buy a new for about $1 or less and clip it in. never bypass the lid switch, it is their for safety reasons. Thank you

There is water standing in my 80 series washer and I can't get the spin cycle to turn on to get rid of it

First, see the Sears parts site for your washer:

and you'll see a list of major sub-components with diagrams and parts.

If it neither drains nor spins, the first thing to check is the Lid Switch. This prevents the machine from draining and spinning if the lid is open.

I assume that you cannot hear the motor trying to turn.

See the following for how to access the console and Lid Switch connection.

Following is a Whirlpool installation and maintenance PDF on top load, direct drive washers. It has a description of how to by-pass the switch.

It also has a troubleshooting guide.$FILE/L-55.pdf

To bypass the switch, you only have to disconnect the power to the washer, remove the two plastic clips from the console, remove the two screws under the clips, tilt the console back, unplug the switch and using an short piece of insulated wire, jump the two outermost contacts on the connector coming from the console and plug the washer back in.

With the jumper in place, try to re-start the washer.

If it works, the Lid Switch is a relatively inexpensive part.

Washer won't drain

Check your lid switch.. If it stops at the spin cycle and will not drain or spin, it is possible that the switch is broken. There is a small tab on the lid that activated the lid switch lever..

See if you can see the plunger and look for the corresponding hole that it would go into on the top, and there is your lid switch. The purpose of the switch is to stop the tub from spinning when you open the lid during spin cycle. Broken switch equates to no spin or drain however even with the lid closed.
Here are some basic instructions:

Accessing this part requires you to first flip up the control panel by: Removing two phillips head screws in the front bottom corners of the control panel, or the rear lower corners of the control panel.
*NOTE for some Kenmore models it may be necessary to remove the endcap covers to expose the screws on the front of the console*
The most recent designs have spring clips under the left and right sides of the control panel that need to be depressed with a putty knife to release them. Pull the panel forward and lift to disengage the tabs at the bottom. Flip the panel upwards and it will swing back out of the way.

Next you will see one wire connector going into the top of the machine, this is actually your lid switch connector, disconnect it (all the rest of the wires will route behind the top of the machine, between the top and the rear panel).
Now using a flat blade screwdriver pry the front of the two brass colored clips towards the rear of the washer (put tip of screwdriver into front most part of clip and press handle of screwdriver towards rear of machine). The clips should pop off the top pretty easily.
Now you can open the lid and place a hand on the front of the opening and pull the cabinet forward. The entire front and side wrapper will come off the base platform and you can set it on the floor to gain access to the inside of the cabinet where the lid switch is mounted and the wires are routed.

Good luck to you!!

My Admiral washer will not spin.

Unplug the washer.
Insert a putty knife between the top lid and the front panel, where the top meets the front. About 2 inches in from each side are 2 clips that must be pressed inward to raise the lid.
Once the lid is raised, remove the 2 wires from the lid switch and jump them together with a small jumper wire.
Plug the washer in again and turn the dial to spin and turn it on.
If it spins, replace the lid switch.

Spin cycle is not working

one possible problem the lid swicth might have broken but if you hear a moter noise when it trying to spin the swictch is ok you can verify
if washing machine agitates during wash cycle
if no agitation newer design has a drive coupling between moter and transmission lean machine back
you will find debries center of machine about 8 inches back usually black rubber the drive coupling
has 3 pins on each outside peice that fit into the center bushing lean machine back have second person for safety unplug machine to change drive coupling there are two clips that hold pump to top of moter remove clips slide pump off shaft remove two screws from top of pump clips unplug wiring harness
undue clips remove moter drive coupling peices can be remove by pulling or can use large flat blade and work from oposites sides till plastic parts come off
reassembly place outside parts one on transmission one on moter install center part on transmission side
line up pins from moter to line up with 3 holes in center part normally top clip i install first so gravity assist with install of bottom clip reinstall screws plug in harness line up pump with moter shaft and reinstall clips run check if no noise from moter when lid is closed then lid switch might be bad the new style of washer is front serviceable there are two screws bottom outside corners of panel remove
light pressure pull panel forward then lift is hinged at
top back roll back there are two brass clips catch front of clip with flat blade screw driver and move top of handle toward back of machine clip will pop off wiring for lid switch on top of case needs to be unplugged outside case will tilt toward you then can be lifted off alignment tabs at bottom front there are two screws where lid switch is held to top of case can be seen when case is removed good luck ron

Washing machine will not spin

Could be the lid switch, to access the inside, insert a flat blade 4" from each side between the front panel and the lid to release the clips. The lid will now hinge backwards, the switch is on the underside of the lid, isolate the supply and short the switch , test the spin cycle, do not leave the switch shorted, if spin works replace the switch, if no spin could be motor or timer.

I have a Whirlpool Model #LSQ9660PG2. It agitates but does not spin dry. All the help pages tell me is it might be a coupler. But i cant find it when i look for parts.

the coupling is behind the motor, unplug washer take the two screws out on control panel and lift it up,it's on hindges, unclip the two metal clips with screw driver, unplug the lid switch harness and remove the frame of washer, take two clips off of pump and remove it,take out the two screws that hold the motor clips and pull out the motor and you will see coupling

Agitates and drains but will not spin

Hi, there is a lid pressure switch that controls the motor during the spin cycle. if the lid is up, it will close open the circuit that controls the motor and it will shut the spin down.

Now, if this lid switch is broken or lose, it will not allow the spinning action at all. your lid pressure switch is damaged or lose at this time. i recommend inspecting this switch that is located under the lid rim. check the wires and connection clips for a lose fit. if the wires and clips are in good condition, this Will confirm the switch failure. replace in this case. i will link you to a replacement switch you can order on line if you choose.

Wont spin unless you use a tool to depress the contactor in the little slot on top of washer lid..seem like the piece is loose or has lost a and spins fine if you hold piece down with...

You cant raise the lid. You have to take the sides off the top panel, and unscrew the two phillip head screws. Then remove the two brass clips(very strong). Then pull the whole cabinet off. Then repair lid sw. Be carefull when putting cabinet back on, you have to make sure the back of cabinet goes on the rail with the clip into it, if you dont put back on right it will vibrate.
