can you go in safe mode? If this is a new product you should have frree support from Symantec. At the least try safe mode and see if you can uninstall or do a system restore. Do you know how to do either of those?

Most likely a problem with Norton, you should try to uninstall norton.
You can do this in safe mode.

Reboot and keep hitting F* to get the safe mode option screen.

I posted a link to get into safe mode. Safe mode runs with very minimal drivers loaded so i fit is Norton, it should no longer freeze up on you. Follow the info on the link I sent you to make sure you are in safe mode.

My compaq CQ56-219WM (recently restored to factory settings) runs extremely slow and i get a constant "high CPU useage" message. how do i fix this please?

When Norton is active it scans the computer for viruses and this will slow the computer down until it finishes.
You computer will improve with more RAM especially if has 512Mb of RAM.

Corrupted toshiba hotkey on windows7

Not sure, but me personally, I would never install Norton or McAfee on my computer. They are nothing but core hogs and slow your system to a crawl especially when it gets close to renewal time. Why pay them to catch a virus when you can catch one for FREE? :)

My laptop is infected with 44 viruses in which I cannot download a free antivirus, what shall I do to remove this, everytime I download antivirus it always infected.

There are 2 solutions to this problem. 1. Formatting of your laptop. as a result of formatting your laptop, you may loose valuable informations as well as programs. 2. Downloading a Norton 360 antivirus program into your laptop. after download, you can scan and fix viruses. this will work perfectly well. If your computer doesnt allows you to perform a download, simply download from another computer into an external device such as a USB device and transfer the Norton 360 setup flies to your laptop and run it. after installation process, scan for viruses and fix. I hope this helps.

Evil anti-virus or virus?

Boot the laptop to safe mode and perform system restore to the earlier point. I am sure this will resolve your issue. I suggest you to do not download and install 2 anti virus software in one computer that will messup the computer as well. Thank you

09/09/09 I got my new computer which came with 15months of Norton internet security 2009.already installed with it. Yet when ever I turn it om I get this notice which comes from Windows security center...

Due to the fact that you are using a dial up connection it may take much longer for an update, so please allow more time for it to complete successfully before windows will pick up that you have an anti virus program.

HELP!!! Computer stopped working when anit-virus was installed?????

Assuming you are using windows xp. 1. Boot up into windows safe mode by pressing the "F8" key during boot process. 2. Choose "Safe Mode without networking" on the menu and after entering your desktop a pop-up will appear telling you that you are using windows safe mode, just press "OK" then uninstall Norton Anti-Virus. 3. Shut-down and/or reboot computer. Another alternative would be to boot into safe mode and perform a system restore. If you choose to do this, you still need to uninstall Norton Anti-Virus because a system restore will only fix just system files not programs that were installed. In other words, you will have a partial installation of Norton Anti-Virus in your computer. As to why this happened, could be a compatability issue with the use of Norton and some other program. Good luck.
