Worst case, you could overlay the touchpad with the self-adhesive laminate used to protect photos.
I would try it first without removing the backing to see if you can stand the loss of accuracy which will almost surely be a consequence of using it.
You might also check Toshiba's support section to see if there is a later driver with better control.
