Re: wash machine wont spin
Here are some reasons for not spinning It does not have to be a motor!
Defective Lid Switch Check lid switch for proper operation. Check the switch for continuity. If it is found to be open, replace the switch assembly. Water Level Switch If the water level
switch is not resetting once the water is drain, power will not be
available to operate the motor during spin. Check the water level
switch for proper operation. Whirlpool/Kenmore- Weak Clutch Spring If the clutch is slipping the spring is weak and must be replaced.

See the following three Whirlpool / Kenmore documents:
Pay particular attention to the "Neutral Drain Assembly" since there is a very small spring on one of the plastic parts that pushes the part into the main spin gear. If the spring is missing or broken, the washer won't spin. (we had the same problem and only found it after tearing the transmission apart the third time.)
If the coupler is ok then the next thing to check is the brake/ basket drive cam driver, the ear breaks off on em and won't release the brake. You must remove the agitator and drop the tranny to check it Nothing is difficult about repairing the washer. I have repair photos HERE
no belt, drive coupler it's probably broken and needs to be replaced. but if its the drive coupler it wont wash either so recheck it.if it still washes then check tub for object through holes jamming tub..you should be able to force the tub around by hand.
I started clothes washing machine with one load of clothes.
Wash and rinse process completed, as it came to spin,
Machine stop, only I heard was running motor. I opened
machine and found coupler is cracked (broken) and was
unable to rotate the gear.
I replaced new coupler and machine started to work normal.
No,there are two such pins in the machine for shipping purposes only when it is shipped out, they drop out into little plastic cups under the machine after delivery,
If it doesn't spin or agitate check the coupler located between the motor and gear box consists of three pieces two are plastic one on the motor and one on the gear box the other connects the two in the center it is rubber. If it spins but doesn't agitate, most likely a bad gear case.
if the coupler and clutch are ok and you can hear the motor functioning, then it appears that your transmission is bad.most of the time you will see that in the days/weeks leading up to this that your cloths were more wet than usual when you took them out of the machine. Check your owners manual for warranty information. Some machines had a 5 year warranty on the transmission or gear case as whirlpool likes to call it.
