Question about Gestetner - SUPPLIES - PS480 (500 x 1) Paper Bank Shredder

Open Question

Gestetner "Fordshredder 5"

I need a circuit (overload) breaker for this unit. It is circular, about 1 inch round and 1 inch deep, with a small red button sticking out of the middle - 2 blue wires soldered on 2 of the bottom terminals. Anyone?

Paper got clogged in shredder and now it won't run

Hopefully there is a reverse switch, see if that will unclog.
Possible the overload tripped a circuit breaker on the machine. If so reset and try the reverse switch.

Overload light stays on

Most likely the cutters are still stuffed with paper shreds and needs to be dismantled and cleaned

What does overload mean?

It means you have overloaded, ie: forced too much, or, too heavy a load through the machine and rather than burn up, or seize your motor, an overload sensor/ switch has tripped. I'm not familiar with your machine but there is often more than one level of protection in a circuit. Some reset automatically, some have to be reset with a small pin and others might even have a fuse. First, unplug machine and do a visual to identify and remove any obvious sources of the jamb. Second, plug it back in and start with a lighter load.

Overload error message?

1. make sure your waste bin is regularly emptied.
2. This is a cross-cut shredder...make sure you regularly "oil" the unit with shredder oil.
3. If the overload light will not go off at all,... then you have either a PCB or Motor problem...would suggest you contact Royal at 1-800-524-0799 for parts assistance.

My OM02750 overload light goes on even with a single sheet? How do I fix this?

I have a OM02750 out of warranty exhibiting the same symtom. I opened the unit (power disconnected) and found some bad solder joints on the bottom of the circuit board. Re-soldered them and now it works.

How can I take apart to clean. It's jammed.

There should be 10 or 12 small phillips (#1 or #2) or Torx head screws on the bottom. Remove them to separate the housing. Do I need to say UNPLUG THE DEVICE??? I think it is a #8 Torx but I could be wrong. Torx drivers available from Sears and other fine tool stores. You will not be able to use interchangable bits in a driver handle because the holes are too small to allow the interchangable driver in. You will need an individual (properly sized) tool to reach deep into the hole to remove the screw, torx or phillips.

You can probably get the stuff out of the knives with a letter opener but be prepared for a fight. and ... don't poke your eye out!

Jamming is a sign or overloading or dulling of the knives. I suggest you not overload your device to preserve its useful life. Also, consider using shredder oil available at the Big Box store near the shedders.

Aurora Shredder AS501X-MS ---- Won't start

Leave the shredder plugged in and lift it from the bucket. Then, being VERY CAREFUL to keep your fingers safe, use a pencil to push in a small switch on the left side of the unit and try feeder a small piece of paper down the middle. If this works, next look into the bucket with the round front facing you. Down the left side there is a piece of plastic that extends out from the wall about 1/4 inch and down into the bucket. The switch on the unit lines up with that plastic extension and must be able to push in that side switch.
A couple of things could prevent the switch from being pushed in.
1) Make sure that the plastic extension in the bucket is not broken. It extends about 1/4 inch from the wall and starts about 1 1/4 inch from the top. If not, then the side switch is not engaging.
2) Make sure that the unit is placed in the bucket in the right direction. Front of unit should be on the same side as the rounded front of the bucket.
3) Make sure the unit is sitting fully in the top of the bucket and is not held up higher by improper placement.
4) If you use a plastic or paper bag in the bucket, make sure that the plastic 1/4 inch extension is still prominent. Make a small **** in the bag if you must.

If you are quiet as you place the unit in the bucket. you should be able to heard the side switch do a little click.

Hope this helps...

Staples shredder spl 727mm - quit working all of sudden - jammed?

Two are accessed through the rubber foot pads. Six are accessedfrom the basket compartment. You will need a VERY LONG AND SKINNY Phillipsscrewdriver with a foot-long blade and a very narrow diameter to fit down theaccess holes. I cut my case in two to get at the six screws through the basketcompartment (very messy). It would probably be easier to drill holes throughthe bottom of the case for screw access. You could then use tape to cover the holes.

Our shredder quit running while in use. Staples said itwould probably need a new circuit board. Once I got inside I found a 5 amp fusesoldered to the circuit board. Yes, it was blown. I jumped it and the machineworked. I unsoldered the fuse and soldered in two wires that I ran through ahole I drilled in the top of the machine. I took a 5 amp automotive fuse(bayonet style) and drilled a small hole through each bayonet. I then threadedthe two wires through the two holes on the fuse and wrapped them around, instead of soldering, for easy future replacement. Then I wrapped the fuse withelectric tape for safety and taped the fuse flat to the top of the machine.Voila! A flawed Chinese product is made usable! Dan Phelps

HSM 125.2hs Begins feeding then stops

There are three things that cause this problem.
1. a gear is broken which will cause only one cylinder to rotate.
2. on the non-driven side (opposite side of the gears) there is a electromagnetic sensor that rotates with the shaft. It detects rotation and overload. If this is out of place or damaged it will cause this symptom.

Royal 1280 MX green light turns red, does not run

The 1280mx has a circuit that detects the high current when the motor is jammed. The 5 watt, 0.5 ohm resistor/fuse (marked as R1) that is part of this circuit blew on my unit. No visible signs of failure, you have to remove it from the circuit board to test it. When R1 fails more current than normal passes through the R2-1k ohm resistor; need to check if it also failed.
