About the only thing I can suggest you check is the initiate termination thermostat (assuming your Heat pump works with one of these). It will be identified by 2 wires going to it and it will be clamped on the line (Not brazed on or screwed on). Now there will also be a reversing valve which has 4 tubes going to it and 2 wires. and it could have high, low, pressure switches that have 2 wires. This thermostat is usually mounted 1/3 to 2/3 way down on the coil and is suppose to be mounted on the "U - Bend" of the out door coil tubing. It usually resembles a pancake and will have a wire or metal clip that holds it securely on the coil U bend. Make sure it hasn't fallen off or come loose. This can cause your heat pump to miss its required defrost.

You can try this also. Some defrost timer boards have a set of "test pins" you put them together with a screwdriver or a piece of wire for a few seconds to initiate a defrost. It defeats the time logic in the board It should go on into defrost and stay in until the coil is cleared of frost and or about 10 minutes which ever comes first. If it comes out right away it may be the termination switch I talked about above. It could also be the board. To check out the thermostat locate the 2 wires going to it from the board. pull them off the board and retry it. Sill goes right out of defrost then jumper the 2 wires together and try it again. If it still comes out this time it most likely the board. If it stays in defrost either time when removing the wires or jumping the wires its the thermostat.

If its anything else; Well Its a little complicated and unless you understand the heat pump /refrigeration cycle and the need for defrost and how the defrost is limited and initiated, well Id say yep...you need a pro.

DTC P1350 Bypass Line Monitor
Refer to Ignition Control, Knock Sensors .

Circuit Description
The Ignition Control Module (ICM) sends signals that the PCM requires for fuel control and spark advance calculations. At the start of engine crank, the ICM controls spark advance (Bypass mode.) When the second 3X reference pulse is recognized by the PCM, the PCM applies 5 volts to the Bypass circuit, commanding the ICM to switch spark advance to PCM control (IC mode). An open in the IC circuit or a short to voltage in the Bypass circuit at startup will cause the PCM to monitor IC pulses during crank, when the ICM should be grounding the IC circuit. This condition will set DTC P1350. The engine may be started but will run on Bypass mode timing.

Conditions for Setting the DTC
The PCM monitors IC pulses during crank while Bypass mode spark advance is commanded

Action Taken When the DTC Sets
The PCM will illuminate the malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) during the second consecutive trip in which the diagnostic test has been run and failed.
The PCM will store conditions which were present when the DTC set as Freeze Frame and Failure Records data.
Conditions for Clearing the MIL/DTC
The PCM will turn OFF the MIL during the third consecutive trip in which the diagnostic has been run and passed.
The History DTC will clear after 40 consecutive warm-up cycles have occurred without a malfunction.
The DTC can be cleared by using the scan tool.
Diagnostic Aids
Check for the following conditions:

Poor connection at the PCM. Inspect harness connectors for backed out terminals, improper mating, broken locks, improperly formed or damaged terminals, and poor terminal to wire connection.
Damaged harness. Inspect the wiring harness for damage. If the harness appears to be OK, disconnect the ICM, turn the ignition ON and observe a digital multimeter connected between the IC circuit and B+ while moving connectors and wiring harnesses related to the ICM. A change in voltage will indicate the location of the malfunction.
Reviewing the Fail Records vehicle mileage since the diagnostic test last failed may help determine how often the condition that caused the DTC to be set occurs. This may assist in diagnosing the condition.

Test Description
Number(s) below refer to the step number(s) on the Diagnostic Table.

This vehicle is equipped with a PCM which utilizes an Electrically Erasable Programmable Read Only Memory (EEPROM). When the PCM is being replaced, the new PCM must be programmed.

When you say you have fuel, do you have normal fuel pressure at the injectors ? Because Honda cars are known for faulty fuel pump relays.
The relay stops powering the pump when it gets hot but will start back up when the relay cools off.

Check the icm plug with a led testlight for pulse while the engine is cranking. Test the wire connector with the small wires going into the coil for pulse.The v8 has a opti-spark distributor behind the waterpump that is prone to failure. It has the pickup inside it that tells the icm when to spark. If no pulse at icm distributor is bad. If pulse at icm but not at coil, icm or wiring between icm and coil is bad.The coil also needs pos.+ power on 1 terminal to operate. Be SURE to check the security light on the dash. If VATS [vehicle anti theft system] fails its usually within the 2 wires going from the key chip in the ignition tumbler to the body control module. Mine were purple and tan.Trying to start it with the wrong key can put it in lockout mode also. There are bypass modules available online for vats problems or you can even install a resistor in the wire to bypass the keychip part and the door alarms still work.

My ICM went out, I put another 4 on it all failed after only mins. or secs. I just put a new ICM and 3 new coil packs on it. Reconnected the negative battery cable. It started right up sounded great I...


Isn't this the wire that provides power TO the ICM not from it? if so trace that wire back and see where it does.. look for a short or open.

What should a multimeter read on a continuity test on the coil packs? i'm getting 1.9,1.7,1.7


The multimeter can read the resistance and if it is not open or shorted out, I'd say that your readings are in the normal range, comparing each resistance with each other + or - 10%.

I looked up the resistance readings on my online resource, but they did not list it specifically.

There are 3 dual-tower ignition coils that are part of the ignition control module (ICM). The ICM contains coil driver circuits that command the coils to operate. The Powertrain Control Module (PCM) controls each dual-tower ignition coil by transmitting timing pulses on the ignition coil control circuit to the ICM for the proper coil to enable a spark event.
  1. Inspect the spark plug wires for proper orientation.
  2. With the ignition OFF, remove the fuel pump relay.
  3. Crank the engine and test for a strong spark on each cylinder spark plug wire using a suitable spark plug tester. Ground the companion cylinder spark plug wire of each cylinder when it is tested.

    If a strong bright blue spark is present on all of the cylinders, remove and inspect all of the spark plugs for proper torque, proper gap, wear, damage, and fouling. Replace the spark plugs if necessary. If there is no spark on any of the cylinders, test the ignition voltage circuit of the Ignition Coil Module (ICM) for an open/high resistance or short to ground, or test the ground circuit of the ICM for an open/high resistance, or a faulty ICM. The wire circuit resistance should measure less than 3 ohms. If there is no spark on any of the cylinders, or spark is weak or intermittent, test the IC circuit for an open/high resistance, or a faulty ICM. The wire circuit resistance should measure less than 3 ohms. If spark is present on one or more of the cylinders, inspect and test the spark plug wires for arching, cuts, rubbing on other components, and proper resistance. If all tests are normal, then the system is operating correctly.

Emergency heat comes on with air conditioning


your problem is in the low voltage control circuit. disconnect the wire at the furnace that operates the emergency heat. Then see if its in the thermostat or the wiring or the board in the furnace
