PC turns on, but would not boot up at all

After getting several BSoD's of the BIOS, it had finally stopped functioning.
when i turn on my computer, it turns on, but the fan runs very loud and there is NO BIOS at all. normally, the CPU fan would run loud for 2 seconds, then it would quiet down when the "COMPAQ" logo appears. worst of all, my monitor would not detect the pc, but does detect my other computer. i tried resetting the BIOS by removing the battery, didn't work, nothing smells burnt neither. anyone knows what happened to my computer that it won't boot up at all and how to fix it (if possible)

this computer has been ONLY upgraded once, with 1024MB of RAM

There's a good chance you've "bricked" the computer by damaging the bios. You don't smell burning because it never got burned - but the data on it is still corrupted.

Look for a jumper on the motherboard called "CLR_CMOS". If you find it, unplug everything, and move the jumper to cover those pins, wait 30 seconds, then put the jumper back. That is a full cmos reset and it's the only thing you can try.

If that doesn't work, u nfortunately you'll have to replace the mobo to fix it, and if you're going to do that, you might as well get a new computer

I have a sinking feeling the motherboard is toast.

But here's some things you can do. Try to start computer after every step, so you can isolate the problem:

    1) Remove both of those cards in the pci slots on the offchance they're causing a hardware fault.

    2) Remove your ram, doublecheck that it IS PC2700 DDR ram and NOT PC3200. Replace with a stick that is PC2700 (e.g. the old stick) if necessary. Reseat ram carefully and make sure it's fully in and clasps are closed.

    3) Firmly push the data cables into your hard drive and CDROM drive

    4) Trace the wire that goes from your RESET switch to your motherboard (it's one of those white ones). It will go to pins on the motherboard and will be labelled "RESET SW". Remove it from the motherboard. You may leave it removed the switch just won't work.

    5) unlatch your CPU, then relatch it. Do not remove the cpu or heat sink. Just unlatch and relatch.

    6) Try to find the "CLR_CMOS" or "CLR_PWD" jumper on the motherboard and ensure it is in the correct position. The jumper should not be crossing the two pins. It should be offset to the side.

If all of that doesn't help.... the motherboard is toast. Unfortunately your computer is Socket A, which is hard to find a motherboard for, so you'll probably need to replace the whole computer.

First - re-seat the hard disk and reboot the computer. If the computer does not boot up then reboot and go into the BIOS configuration to see if the BIOS detects the hard drive. If it doesn't detect the hard drive then it could be faulty.
Then the hard drive needs to be replaced in the computer/laptop, Windows installed and the computer or laptop's device drivers plus your programs etc. to get a functioning computer/laptop again.

Then while the unit is unplugged try to remove the CMOS battery and put it back in.. this eliminate if the BIOS is the one causes this to happen, then turn the computer on. If still the same turn computer off, then remove the video card and put it back in and try to turn computer on if it's still the same. Try to re-install OS.
