Wireless connection issues

hi, i have a laptop which works with my Bt wireless router, i bought a new HP Photosmart C4380 to use its wireless printing function but when it scans for my wireless network it can't see any! i know its there and on because i'm using the internet and the router has all it little flashing lights on, so i'm assuming its something to do with the printer...

i put the installer disk in and go through the instructions which are fine until it gets to the point where i identify my wireless network and put in the WEP key, it does this fine when connected by USB but then it should work without it... it doesn't identify any of the wireless networks my laptop picks up (i can pick up both my neighbours security encrypted networks too)
any ideas on how to get it working would be great.... Just bought hp Pavilion dv7-1132 with hp photosmart c6380. Have Netgear Range Max wireless router. Have loaded the disks for the system to work. Printer is about 3 feet from the router and does not recognize either the wireless network or my laptop. My laptop also doesn't recognize the printer. Any suggestions would be helpful. Spent 2.5 hours on phone with hp tech who couldn't figure it out. HELP
