SOURCE: Blue screen - no signal - turns off [visio tv L42hdtv10a]

With out turning on the T.V., Push the [Input] button on the remote control. The TV should turn on and activate the input menu, just continue to push [Input] until it is set on TV (or HDMI, etc.). this should solve your problem.

My vizio L42HDTV10A mfg date:november 2006 turns itself off about 5 secs after I turn it on. Is it fryed or can this be fixed?

it can be fixed the problem is in the power supply..but since the tv is old my advise is to buy a new one as it will cost you to get it repaired.if not then get a repairman to do the job.good luck.

TV was playing, then the screen turned black.

If the screen is black and you have sound then lightly press and shine a strong flashlight against the screen. If you see an image around the edge of the flashlight, an image is being 'displayed'. The problem is probably in the Inverter/CCFT or the power going to the Inverter.

Vizio L42HDTV10A sound problems

In my case, turning the surround sound OFF is what fixed the problem. The bass contibutes most to the perception of the location of a sound. If surround is ON without surround speakers connected, the internal TV speakers can only take the place of what would be the front speakers in a surround system. So turn surround OFF and set your bass preference wherever you want it. That worked for me.
