Question about Computers & Internet

Hello, I have a gateway select 1300. It won't boot but the power supply is working and I changed the hard drive. I haven't worked on solving this problem for about 18 months but I really want to get this computer working again. I changed the hard drive and unistalled the OS. It came with WinME but i upgraded to XP worked fine but now doesn't work. nothing comes on the screen but the power supply is working.

If you look at the web site, there is a button for chat to expert, please go through that, if you have any prolems that write back to me here and I will help you further.

One more thing you could try is to repair your connection. select your network connect from the bar on the windows and select on the list there should be status, and on that list select repair. I am pretty sure that will fix your problem.

Look forward in hearing from you.

Gateway NV52 won't wake up.

Is it clean? fan and vents? Unplug, remove battery, leave battery out, plug in, reboot. If that fails, Re Boot and try a System restore/recovery to a date before this issue. OR, Boot to Safe Mode, use this procedure to select Normal Boot: http://www.netsquirrel.com/msconfig/msconfig_win7.html When/If you get a Normal Boot, Open Control Panel, Power Options, select High Performance, select Change Plan settings, set plugged in both to Never, set advanced setting to your preference. Use this procedure: http://windows.about.com/od/customizingwindows/ss/set_power_options_all.htm Always shut down and unplug your laptop when not in use, remove battery when you use on AC, your Laptop/components will last longer, and will not be subject to possible power surge damage and the battery, IF it malfunctions will not cause a fire hazard.

Why won't my Gateway PC DVD drive close?

Are all the Windows and Gateway updates and Hotfixes in? Look for a DVD rom fix on the Gateway website support. If there is no disk in the drive and it opens, you may want to replace it. You can try a work-around, I have no idea if it will solve the problem, but at boot open the BIOS, go to Boot sequence, Change HDD to boot first. DVD/CDrom 2nd or 3rd.

Gateway laptop message PXE-E61 test failure, check cable PXE-MOF:exiting Broadcom PXE ROM. No bootable device

Your system is trying to boot from someplace other than your hard drive (Probably a LAN).

Turn the computer off and restart it, but watch the screen for which key it says to hit to Change the Boot Sequence or Boot Order, then hit that key. You have to hit the key when you see the message or it will not work and you will have to reboot and start over. Select the Hard Drive as your boot device and see if it boots up. If so, you will have to do this everytime you boot up, but you can make it a permanent change so that you won't have to do this each time you boot.

To make it a permanent change, turn the laptop off, then turn it on and watch the screen to see which key it says to hit to get into the Bios or System Setup. Hit that key when you see the message or it will not work and you will have to reboot and start over. Once you get into the Bios or System Setup look for the Boot Sequence or Boot Order and go to it and make the ddc/cd drive as your 1st and the Hard Drive as 2nd. This is the normal boot order but you have to make sure nothing is in the dvd/cd drive when you boot (such as a music cd or a movie dvd) otherwise the system will try to boot from it and you will get a error message. This also allows you to fix your computer in case it can't boot from the hard drive for some reason. Save the changes and exit out of the Bios or System Setup and reboot.

My computer won't boot up and the orange light just stays on. The moniter is working, the fans in the power supply is working

Could be your motherboard. Does anything come up on the screen at all when you boot up? Do you hear a beep at startup? Also check to make sure your hard drive is spinning just to be sure.

My computer says reboot and Select proper Boot device or Insert Boot Media in selected Boot device and press a key

Hello
This means that your hard drive is not detected by your computer.Unplug your computer then open the cover then check if the connector of the hard disk are properly connected and the power supply on the hard disk are also properly connected. And try to feel if your hard is vibrating when you powered it on. Because if the hard disk does not vibrating it means that your hard disk have no power or not properly connected to the connectors or damage. Sometimes i experienced this problem thats all i done then it works.

Gateway GT5220 bios works no boot up

If the issue was the video card then there would be no display. If there was any display it would be discolored.

Try unplugging any removable media that's hooked up to the computer. After that try to boot it up.

If it still doesn't go anywhere then you most likely have a power supply issue on your hands. try unplugging an unnecessary components inside the computer such as any CD/DVD drives and removing any cards installed. Pretty much everything but the motherboard and the hard drive. If it still doesnt boot properly then you might either have to buy a new power supply or a new motherboard as long as you know your hard drive is good.

The thing si if it was an issue with the hard drive you would get an error message. If you seemed to have left out any error messages please post them.

Gateway gm5442 very slow to boot, 20 to 30 minutes.

You said you tried different CPU, but it was the same motherboard, right? Maybe the motherboard speed (data bus, etc.) is just slow. Otherwise, there's not much left to try if the hard drive works OK in another computer and you've tried upgrading the memory, CPU, and power supply.

Gateway computer does not turn on

Without seeing the machine, I'm thinking you have a motherboard problem. But try these troubleshooting steps before throwing in the towell:
Open the case and disconnect the CD cable. Now try it. If it still doesn't work, disconnect the hard drive and try it.
Let me know what happens. I've seen CDs mess up a system like this. I many times will swap out the power supply, but I'm thinking with the lights flashing, its a more serious problem.

My gateway 700 xl doesnt boot

Unplug the power from you 700xl and from you monitor. Try removing the cmos battery and reinstalling it. Then, plug everything back in and try restarting. If it continues to give you the yellow light, you may need to replace the CMOS battery, especially if it is more than two years old.

Another thing to consider is if your power supply is underpowered for the number of external devices you have plugged into it (i.e., cd, dvd, external hard drives, printers, pci cards, etc). Gateway installed very low powered power supplies in their 700xl desktop computers. Usually only around 250 watts maximum.

If you are replacing the power supply with another 250 watt maximum power supply, and you have a lot of external devices plugged in, you may need at least a 350 watt power supply....if your CMOS battery is not the problem.
