Question about Sony MSDW-904 Comopsite Video Input Board MSDW904 Camcorder
I recorded a tape and then later realized I had dirty heads, Is the recording going to be fuzzy? When I play the tape...its very distorted ..but im wondering if I clean the heads will the video I shot be salvagable.
SOURCE: SONY HANDYCAM CCD TRV-108
All of a sudden no picture appears on the screen when recording or playing back. It will play old tapes that have been recorded, but won't record any new pictures, just sound. Did I press something? It worked a month ago and hasn't been used since.

I just made contact with a service tech who seems very competent and who won me over. Have problem with video and audio dropout similiar to dirty heads on a 10 year old DCR-VX2000 but which is a larger problem attributed to worn parts which will need replacement. Do not know how old your unit is, but will share name of person/company if you wish. Only thing that worries me is if you by chance had had yours repaired by them!!! They are a Southern California company.

Yes you can clean the heads. It's a delicate procedure, but, requires no disassembly. But, I'm curious about your mention of "blurry spots." Typically, on a digital camera, the video when the heads are dirty, will either just appear as a white screen, or, will come out blocky and glitchy (like poor satellite reception). "Blurry" would result from a dirty lense or filter. However, to clean your heads, I would run to Radio Shack and buy cleaning fluid refils. Take a Qtip and dampen it with the cleaning fluid. Open the camera, remove the tape and look for the video drum. Lightly rub the Qtip along the drum horizontal to the spin direction (not across the grain). Turn the drum and clean until you have swept the entire circumference.

SOURCE: No picture when trying to record
Check the following link. Call them and explain the symptoms and they
should send shipping label to you so you can send the camcorder in for
repair. I had my TRV38 repaired in about 2 weeks. Good luck.
this is a known issue with Sony
