Question about RCA P60920BL 60" Rear Projection Television

2 Answers

Colors off Had to pull the guts out of my 20 year old RCA 60" projection TV to get the power supply replaced and then again to move it. Slid the guts back in the cabinet and now the colors don't line up and the picture is not perfectly centered anymore. The blue is off to the left. Is there an adjustment for this?? I can only find focus adjustments for each of the colors and it looks like the blue just needs to be tilted slightly.

Can you help me with the convergence controls?? Where are they? The only adjustments I see focus each of the colors.

    Thanks!
I found the maze of adjusters, set them to center positions and went through the convergence steps 3 times but I can't get the blue right. I still have dual "blue" images mainly on the top with the blue stretched and bending in an ark. Is there a trick to this?

I keep playing with it and it is getting better but I still have the halo effects mainly in the corners. I take it that there is no real "system" for this. The controls are numbered so I'm adjusting them in sequence. Can I assume the object is to get all the colored lines to merge or am I thinking about this the wrong way?

You say you have "dual" blue images: If this the case, you'll have to repair the blue convergence first before being able to properly setup the rest of the alignment...accordianman

Set all convergence controls to center and then manually set all tubes to as close as possible to coincide with each other. Then, use those electronic potentiometers to fine tune the picture.

This set may have controls that are actuated from the remote. I don 't have the manual in front of me right now. The front panel convergence controls are generally "hidden" behind a panel on the front of the set as a rule...accordianman

Typically, you'll set the green as the master; Making it as symetrtrical as possible and then set the other two colors to it.....accordianman

Hello,
This problem is caused by a faulty Convergence amp. This amp keeps all three colors aligned together and square on the screen. It could also be the power supply section that supplies power to this amp.
A local TV shop should be able to repair this for you for about $350

Poor picture quality

The problem is probably the convergence power supply. The switching power supply chip on the convergence board will burn out, producing a rounded picture with 3 separate colors. The chip is a long, heat-sinked SIP (single-in-line package) located on the convergence board. You can find replacements on ebay.

This problem is the "pincussion" setup on the convergence board. It, however can be caused by a failing power supply. If the set takes more than 60 seconds to produce the picture and up to 10 minutes to fully produce a good picture, even with the problem, power supply. Most likely if it does not do the mentioned it is the pin amp on the convergence board.
