Question about Whirlpool 24 in. DU1100XTPS Built-in Dishwasher

Heat drying not working/working intermittently.

I have a DU1145tp built in dishwasher (Whirlpool) and I am intermittently getting a failure code (clean light flashes 7 times and pauses) I reset it, and it works for a few washes and then it fails again. The troubleshooting guide tells me to check the heater circut. After a simple check, I discovered the heating element is not heating at all. I'm very handy and can't afford a service call, is there any way to repair this myself? I have had the dishwasher for two years and installed it myself. I can't tell you how angry it makes me to have a major appliance fail within two years. HELP!!

There is no lime or scale buildup ANYWHERE on this year and a half old machine. I do not have hard water or any other chemistry issues. If the heating element is not heating at all there is no way that is a lime build-up problem. That could only happen over time, this problem happened without warning or indication of a progressive failure. My heating element is stone-cold during the drying cycle, therefore it has to be a defective element or the circuitry that controls it is malfunctioning. I need to know how to determine which it is and troubleshoot the issue, not guesses at what might be the problem.

if the heating element does not heats up this could also be the problem  It sounds like a lime scale buildup on the element . Try using Lime Away along with your nylon scrubber. Don't put Lime Away in the machine and run it. You don't want to get that stuff all over the dishwasher. Pull the plug first. Once you get the junk off, look the element over closely for a breakdown on the sheath. If you find that, replace the element.
    and the installation procedure
For you would probably be easier to turn off breaker and pull dishwasher out.. remove the heater nuts on the under side--------

Ther are nuts on the underside---------

2 plastic nuts hold the heater in-------

and then in the same way fit the new heating element.

Reset code for dishwasher

In order to reset the dishwasher you need to key in this sequence rapidly within 6-8 secs.

Hi Temp/ Heat Dry/ Hi Temp/ Heat Dry/ High Temp/ Heat Dry

All lights should turn on if reset is successful. Press Cancel to exit.

If this does not happen then most likely the controller or the keypad is faulty.

Try to reset the dishwasher by using this sequence of keys within 6-8 secs.

HiTemp/ heat Dry/ Hi Temp/ heat Dry/ Hi Temp / Heat dry.

If it works all lights should turn on. Press Cancel to exit.

I am assuming you have already tried to turn the mains power off and back on.

If still no difference, then the controller or the panel has packed up.

You can locate the parts from this site.

I have a Whirlpool Dishwasher Model #GU240CXTPB1. The normal light won't stop blinking. Tried turning the breaker to reset, but still blinks. No other button works.

Whirlpool dishwasher reset sequence is usually to hit the heat dry then normal then heat dry then normal buttons within 5 seconds and it usually resets.

Whirlpool dishwasher is not fully drying dishes

Are you using jet dry or a similar drying agent? If not you should be. Also check to make sure the heater is getting hot in the dry cycle, just place your hand over the heating element to see if it's generating heat, don't touch it as it will burn you.

Whirlpool dishwasher reset code

Yup, found it on another site..I had the same issue today.

Reset code: Push 1. Heat Dry 2. Normal 3. Heat Dry 4. Normal

wait about 2 minutes as the controller resets itself. You should see all the leds flash on and then wash and rinse leds stay on for about 30 seconds. A minute or so later ..presto, my machine worked again.

My machine is not the GU3200XTP, but in the same Whirlpool tall tub series (same manual) so leds may not have the same name.
