Where do I find the network security key for my router

If it has a SSID and Security Key that has been setup, the person that set it up would have the Security Key. You didn't supply the Make or Model or device? Try to connect with a Ethernet Cable to verify the device is working properly. If it is connected to the computer with limited access it may be a computer issue? Reboot the Router and the computer, unplug the router, for 30 seconds or so, plug in, wait for self test, reboot computer, select the wireless from the list of Available Wireless Networks and connect. Post results.

I am trying to add a wireless connection to another laptop we own but apparently cannot access www.linksysfix.com/ela

Its not necessary to access linksys.com Your new laptop if has wireless card will read network automatically and connect with password if you set up for your router. If no password set up then your laptop should be online as soon as its powered on!
Most router problems can resolved by power cycle.
Check if your laptop new has wireless card and is enabled!

Router ZyXEL HW -D1, Laptop win 7. After several days of good wireless connection PC losing connection. It discovers routers but unable to connect. Trying to restart router, to change security settings...

1. this issue may be due to the age of the router and also firmware updates need as it reads
2. check the manufacturers site for update instruction set
3.Here are some step to try to see if the router is indeed grandfathered:
1.Log into router. Using either 192.168.0.1 to 192.168.1.1 in a browser window that is ( internet Explorer or Firefox)
2. Verify wireless router name( on the computer) >>> ( on/off) ( router status window)
3.Note router name you are connecting to.
4.. Check the laptop/desktop do ipconfig /all to see current IP addresses.
5. Set the laptop up in the router by WEP KEY or MAC address. This set up in the "security tab" in the router. using 192.168.0.1 or 192.168.1.1 to access through a browser.
6.Note router name you are connecting to.
7. Move the laptop about 20ft away and try to log on to the internet.
This is for all routers to set up wirelessly.
8. check for firmware update at the manufacturers site for your model router
9. cell phones, cordless phones, digital TV's, can affect the data signal from a router. Also distance from the router can be a factor. If your router is in a basement place the router to a upper floor and center it in the room.

We have cable internet provided by Virgin. I am accessing the internet by plugging the ethernet cable dirctly into my laptop rather than via my DI524. Have just read a post that says I have to be connected...

If you can connect to the internet using the Ethernet cable on your laptop then the cable modem is configured correctly.
If you want to connect to the Internet using the D-Link wireless router then first you need to configure the D-Link wireless settings and then configure the wireless card in your laptop with the D-Link's wireless settings. Remove the Ethernet from the laptop and connect it to the WAN/Internet port on the D-Link wireless router.

To secure your wireless network from unauthorized access, please click on this link and follow my instructions :- http://www.fixya.com/support/r3559128-wireless_router_security
