Question about Xirlink Promax Webcam
Posted on Jan 13, 2009
I too have had the IBM ProMax for years. It was designed for web conferencing and I never had a cd or any other driver as it has a hardware .inf description in the Microsoft database. In addition to TechJuli's comprehensive solution provided try downloading Windows Media Encoder, go to Tools and Congiguration where you will see the drop down menu for Source where you web cam will be listed as Promax. Perhaps you did not have any program installed to recognize your device or you have simply not chosen the correct device as default. Here's a link for the encoder:http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/forpros/encoder/default.mspx

Youre in a bit of a pickle if you're using Windows XP or Vista (i.e., any Windows operating system that is less than 10 years old).
the Xirlink IBM Pro Max has been out of production for a few years. In fact, the manufacturer (Xirlink) doesn't even have a site anymore. That's right, its older than Dakota Fanning, but we won't be detterred, will we?
Let's fix it so it can operate on XP/Vista:
Hope this helped you!
