Kitchenaid KSBS25FJBL01 side by side Door dispenser light, water and ice crushed or whole does not work. All quit at once. Ice maker is working OK. Both Fridge and freezer working OK. Could it be a faulty dispenser lock switch or open door lock out switch? How do you access them to test or replace?

How do I remove the dispenser panel from the door to access the switches?

  • tommypat Dec 06, 2008

Does the KSBS25FJBL01 model use the freezer light switch also as the open door lock out switch? It has three contacts on the back. I am getting different readings on infinity and resistance between the three. Does this indicate a bad switch?

Efore testing the interlock switch, unplug the refrigerator to avoid an electrical shock hazard.
The interlock switch prevents various components from functioning when the door is open. For example, an automatic ice through the door dispenser should not operate when the door is open. If it did, the ice would spill onto the floor. If this switch malfunctions, it can cause improper function by either disabling features or failing to safeguard against their use when the door is open.
The switch may be shared with the door's light switch, but more often it has its own separate switch. The switch may be mounted near the light switch or it may be on the door itself, possibly near the bottom, out of view.
Locate the switch and remove it by removing the retaining screw (if any) or by prying it with a putty knife. Place a piece of masking tape over the blade of the putty knife to prevent damage to the freezer. Gently pull the switch from its housing and expose an inch or two of wire.
The switch will be connected by two wires (four wires if it also controls the light). Label the wire placement on the switch before disconnecting the wires. The wires are connected to the switch with slip on connectors. Firmly pull the connector off of the switch terminal (do not pull on the wire). You may need to use a pair of needle-nose pliers to remove the connectors. Inspect the connectors and the terminals for corrosion. If the connectors are corroded they should be replaced.
How to Test the Interlock Switch How-To > Appliances Refrigerator Kitchenaid KSBS25FJBL01 side by side
Door - 1x1.gif Test the switch for continuity using a multitester. Set the multitester to the ohms setting X1. Place a probe on each terminal. The multitester should give a reading of infinity when the probes touch the terminals. With the probes still touching the terminals, depress the switch, the reading should change from infinity to zero. If it does not pass both of these tests, the switch should be replaced.
if there are four terminals, touch the probe to one terminal and then test each of the other three terminals with the other probe one at a time. With the button depressed touching one of the three terminals should cause the multitester reading to change from infinity to zero. Those two terminals are a pair. Release the switch with the probes still touching the terminals and the reading should change back to infinity. Now test the other two terminals. If either pair of terminals fails the continuity test, the switch should be replaced.

Ice maker quit working but water dispenser still works, the reservoir to make cubes also empty.can you advise?

If the ice maker tray is empty you may have a water valve failure. usually this unit have a dual valve 1 for the dispenser the other one for the ice maker some time a side fail and the entire solenoid have to be replace. the ice maker can also be bad. an easy way for you to test if ice maker is good is by putting water manually inside the ice maker tray depending on how cold is your frig wait about 2 hrs or less if the ice maker cycles and drop ice then water solenoid is the problem if not then replace ice maker.

Ge, tfx26kpda ww, ice maker only dispences crushed ice

At least yours is making ice. Mine wount even make ice. While toubleshooting my prob, I notice a metal rod on the bottom of the ice tray. This rod opens and shuts a plastic "trap door" in the tray. The position of that door determines whether the ice is crushed or whole. If the trap door is open the ice falls through the dispenser freely. If the door this closed the ice is force thorugh metal teeth where it is crushed then dispensed. Open the freezer door and take the ice tray out. You should see a hole at the back of the freezer that the metal rod goes through. In that hole there is a plastic square that moves up and down. If the set your dispenser to crushed ice, leave the door open, push in the door switch at the bottom, and press the dispenser. The plastic square does nothing while the motor is turning. That allows the door to stay closed and forces the ice through the metal teeth. If you set the dispenser to whole ice and do the same thing the plastic square is suppose to lift up forcing the door open and letting the whole ice drop freely. The plastic square probably does nothing even if you set it to whole ice. That mean the trap door never opens focing the ice to always get crushed.

Unfortunately, I have no solution because mine works and I had no need to investigate further. I hopes this helps you figure out the problem though

Good Luck.

Ice won't dispense, no power to water light

I would check hte wire harness leadngto the door under hte freezer hinge. itll be wrapped in a black web like covering. Just under hte unit itself follow ht ewire and unplug hte harness. then carfully cut hte black webbing and inspect wires. there tends ot be apinch point there and the wires will sheer from one another, . if so there is no replcing hte harness, the door would have to be replaced at a cost of nealry $600. not enough room for a wire nut, but hav had sucess using stright inline bullet style connector, or others have sucessfully soldered connections back in place
