Be sure there is no water in it. put two pots of water in it. It should fill up the pot then. next time just ad one pot of water. and it should work right. It keeps some reserve water in the heated part.

My rv has an 8amp coffee pot. what size inverter do I need to buy to invert to 8 amps ac?

8 amp x 120 volts = 960 watts required. So a 1000 watt inverter will suffice. Better to buy somewhat larger. A variety of 1500 watts ones starts as low as $35 online to about $100 for a major brand.

Their is a big electrical block that connects the top half and the bottom half. Look for the failure to originate there.

It trips the breaker in the trailer sometimes when the compressor tries to start

In your case if it's only doing it once in a while, I would pay attention to what else I have on as far as AC power users go, such as , water heater on hydro, coffee maker, toaster oven, electric frying pan etc. If your plugged in to 30 amp service, but incoming voltage reading is only 100-110 volts, then your amperage draw from items is going to increase. For example: your air conditioner may normally draw 12-14 amps at 120 volts coming in. If that voltage coming in is only 105 volts, then that air conditioner will draw 18-22 amps, on start-up approx, thus, trips breaker. With that said, I would verify incoming voltage first. Make sure your plugged in directly to receptacle if at all possible, and if extension cord is necessary, keep it as short & heavy as you can to eliminate voltage drop to trailer. Then eliminate as many hydro powered items as you can when A/C is running. If you want to make a pot of coffee, turn A/C to fan mode while it's brewing, then change back to cool when it's done. If you have water heater on hydro, change it to propane when using A/C. If you have more questions, or info to add, let me know.
