Question about Sunbeam 5891 Bread Maker

1 Answer

Black goo type liquid oozing from under dough hook when done.

At end of dough cycle I always notice this black gooey liquid under dough hook and it gets on my dough as well. I am wondering if it is some type of oil from breadmaker's motor. I am positive it is not any part of the ingredients and another breadmaker of mine doesn't do this. I am afraid to continue using it and may request a replacement .

Sounds to me like your seal is bad and you need a new bread pan, which includes the seal. Call phone no. in your manual to get the part you need.

Gooey black substance was lubricant or grease. Can you really fix this yourself? Let the professionals make the repairs. These companies won't sell parts to you on a retail level. Un Certified repairs can make the machine unsafe to use. Please let a Professional repair the machine.

Hi.

Here few tips:

Check the type of detergent used. Try changing detergent.
Open the drain filter cap and check for blockage. Clean the filter. Access is in front at the bottom.
Check the drain hose at the back. If height setting is incorrect water with flow back inside the appliance creating the problem.
Access the pressure switch and clean the pressure hose connected to the switch. A defective pressure switch may result in under-filling, leaving more detergent than normal at the end of the cycle.

Hello. I just purchased my Kitchen Aid Professional 550 HD last Sunday from Costco. I've used it four times and tonight we noticed that the two thin rings (one black) just above the beater shaft are out...

What I think you are describing is the snap ring (black) which you cannot move and the washer controlling the up thrust of the mixer. The black snap ring is usually a tight fit into the groove on the shaft and shouldn't move. The washer right above it is required to be there enabling the mixer to used with a spiral dough hook. The spiral dough hooks cause upwards pressure on the gear train that does not exist using a c-type dough hook. I think you mixer is fine............leave it alone, that's the way it was designed.

Paint from beater bar or pan melting into dough

If the dark streaks are of a liquid nature, then it is the lubrication (grease/oil) from the sealed bearing in the bottom of the dough pan. The seal is broken and oozing out the lube. If it is a solid nature, then it could be the Teflon coating in the pan. Hope this helps...Hank

Water is my refrigerator crispers and meat drawer

I dont know what the book is saying to do nor what refrigerator it is, but in my case the reason for collecting water is that the drain gets stuck with some nasty goo.
This drain so located in the back of the refrigerator and is used to lead away water condensing on the cooling element.
Take a long stiff wire and push it through or make a hook and try to pull the goo out (this is really gooey stuff but it rather does not stink).

Dry clumps in pizza dough

Hi. You should consider a few things. They type of hook you use, can greatly affect your end result. If you're making a yeasted dough with a high protein percentage 12-13%, you should be using an "ED" hook, this is a spiral hook that has a sharp turn at the tip. You can find them on eBay for a competitive price. I believe that Hobart also sells them, but for a higher price. They are very good for mixing pizza type doughs, they also do an excellent job kneading the dough.

Have you checked the flour for lumps before it goes into the mixer? Have you tried sifting the flour?
Are you adding all the liquid and flour at once? If so try adding flour in stages to all the liquid. If you find that this solution helps you, please rate it. Good luck! ricardok45
