Suddenly it only brews 1/2 cup at a time

When everything else that you tried fails... like descaling with vinegar and leave it for 15-24 hrs 2-3x before brew rinsing), or the paper clip on both top and bottom punchers cleaning, or turning it upside down and giving it a shake, or cleaning the water reservoir entrance. then, for the last resort, before deciding on replacing the diaphragm pump... open the bottom metal part, inspect for any visible drip of water (accumulation of white hard water stains, or discoloration on the metal) visualize where it's coming from. Mine is on 2 spots, from the diaphragm pump (where there's 3 black screws) and where the connection of the main pump to the reservoir. This good news, it means nothing wrong with the pumps. it's been leaking water so the connection is the only problem (must be air tight). The common sense FIX: depress the metal clamp and pull the plastic tube out, clean the inside and the connection and re-attach it back making sure the little leak will stop. Replace the other one with a new tie wrap and make sure it's air tight.

Coffee machine blocked

it could be grind stuck in the (yes the, as in the only) hole in the filter cup. remove the filter cup from the cup holder (the thing with the black handle) and use the tiny pin in the little brown tool to push out whatever is in there. you may have used to fine a grind or stuffed the filter cup too much. careful, that is how you break the plastic filter holder ring.

for calcifying, i just use plain white vinegar. i put it in straight into the clear water holder, about 3/4 cup, then i run it throuhg a bit, let it sit 5 min, run it through a bit, let it sit 30 min to an hour. depending on the day, i repeat a few times, rinse with clean water. i do this about every 2 months.

Water does not heat up

The machine have a puss button used a reset for safety thermostat. If the machine went overheated for any reason then you have to push this button once all the way in and the machine will probably start heating again. If you try the above but you have not any heating then the heating elenet need to be replaced. Their is a very small posibility that the electrical wirring in a point to be oevrheated and lost contact so in this case you need to replace connector.

How do you clean the frother on the ESP8XL machine?

1. Remove the froth enhancer and rinse under warm tap water. 2.. Wipe the steam wand with a damp cloth. 3. Briefly set the Selector Control to the ‘STEAM’ position to clear any remaining milk from the steam wand. If that doesn't work, remove any rubber parts. Place the metal frother tube in a pot of water with a bit of ammonia or vinegar in it. Heat the water to boiling, then let it simmer awhile.

Popping sound following by large bursts of steam

the machine is building too much steam so the safety is blowing off, there might be a thermostat on the machine that is not telling the elements to turn off at the correct temperature. Use ohms meter to check thermostats.

A lake of water

anyone else w/ this problem: cheap workmanship = cheap, malfunctioning machine. turn it upside down, unscrew the 4 screws w/ metal washers and the six screws with out washers from the base of the housing. once removed, you can see that cheap metal clamps are used around the plastic hoses which supply water from resevoir to steamer & brewhead via the pump. either length of hose above pump or below pump has come loose or pump is fauly or there is a hole in a tube. good luck!

Changing the control board on a SL 90 Re: Checking and Resoldering bad Solder Joints on an SL90

Tools:
#1 Phillip screwdriver
Scissors or Wire Cutters
Soldering Kit

Step 1.
Unplug Machine and remove the water tank.

Step 2.
Unscrew and Remove the recessed Phillips screw from the top back of the machine, right where the top of the water tank sits.

Step 3.
With the front machine resting against your chest, so the faceplate does not "pop" out, pull from the back -top of the machine (cup warmer), towards the front. To remove the top of the machine (cup warmer) you only need to slide it forward until the faceplate is vertical (perhaps ¾ of an inch), we caution against bringing it any further forward than this point. This will allow you to remove the top. You may let it dangle over the back of the machine where your water tank sits as it won’t hurt the machine. Take off the faceplate by carefully unplugging it from your power board on the left side of the machine.

Step 4.
There may be a white plastic zip tie that holds down your power board. You can remove this piece using scissors or wire cutters (please be very careful!). Next, slide your power board up and out of the two black metal sleeves. Do not worry about disconnecting any wires, as you only need to look at the back of the electrical board where all the small metal dots are. Notice the picture below as it highlights the solder joints that control the heating of your machine. If any of these look discolored (brownish-black) or is a dull gray (vs. shinny silver) then it is going to need to be resoldered.

Step 5.
If you have a Soldering Kit at home, resolder these three joints, making sure to melt some of the original solder. Once you are finished, put your machine back together and test it.

Breville ESP8XL Espresso Machine Cafe Roma leaking.. help please..

We had that happen and it was a crack in the black ring that holds the filter. Breville could not supply us with one but we found an OEM part in aluminum from http://www.vancouverwireedm.com/caferomadiyt.htm. We received it 1 week after ordering. It was pretty easy to replace. Our machine works fine now.
