Computer keeps restarting right before loading xp

I've just got this computer from a garage sale, it has a serial ATA mother board and ddr ram. I have tried various hard drives with it and some I know are good drives as they worked recently in another computer. This computer keeps rebooting itself right before loading up xp. I was trying to install xp and it looked really good like it was going to install. Then it just keeps going right about to load click its rebooting again. what could cause this?

Have you accessed the BIOS each time you swapped drives?
I don't know your board but you may have to let the BIOS examine your hardware and choose 'safe defaults' for you.
Also, flaky memory will cause all kinds of hangups-

Need to buy a new Mother Board?need some help

Now a days every motherboard is come with PCI-Express Slot and this mothrboard can also handle more than 3.0Ghz CPU and it support DDR2 RAM which is faster than DDR1 RAM.

High FSB and high storage of DDR2 RAM will increase your computer performace.

DDR2 RAM FSB is depend on your motherboard choice. Because your motherboard should be able to support your RAM FSB rate.

Pentium 4 comptability with SD Ram

If you know what mother board you have you could check what RAM it can use.

All RAM is installed in the same way, but different types of RAM are keyed differently. That basically means that one type of RAM (for example SD RAM) will simply not fit into another type of RAM slot (for example a DDR RAM slot).

To install ram on a PC
Please note - do NOT touch the connector side of the RAM, handle it only by holding the side or top edge
    1. check that you have the right type of RAM. do this by lining up the RAM above the RAM slot and making sure that the RAM is the same length as the RAM slot AND ALSO that the RAM's key (the little hole or notch in the RAM) lines up with the key in the RAM slot. Note there might be more than one key
    2. open both clips of the RAM slot by pushing them down and out from the center of the RAM slot
    3. gently insert the RAM into the RAM slot
    4. check again that the RAM and the RAM slot's key's line up, if they do, firmly press down on the RAM on both corners until both clips automatically click shut on the RAM

    That's it! :-)

IS DDR SDRAM IS DDR II RAM OR DDR

No. DDR replaced the SD in RAM so SDRAM and DDR RAM are two completely different things but each ram type has its own frequency hence you get SDRAM 100(mhz) and SDRAM 133(Mhz) just like you get DDR 1 RAM at 266(mhz) and 400(mhz) and DDR 2 RAM at 533(mhz) and 800(mhz). Therefore as you can see how these things differ, but if your mboard takes SDRAM that it can take and frequency of SDRAM but you must ensure that all the frequencies of all your RAM modules in all your slots correspond otherwise you will have problems, meaning that if you decide to use 133mhz RAM then all your RAM modules that you use must be the same. Let me know how you go. thanks
