Question about Dell Inspiron 6400 Notebook

1 Answer

Errorcode 2000:0221 / 4C00:041C

I am having problems with my Dell Inspiron 6400 lately. It want boot into Windows OS and it is not booting any recovery CD to the end. The PSA diagnostic program shows 2000:0221 (Interval Timer Channel 0 (mode 0) is not generating interrupts). In addition the extended check display the code 4C00:041C (channel mode 2 is not operating correctly). I have checked the hard drive and it seems okay. What does it mean? How can it be fixed? Has somebody made experience with this problem?

Found a similar post in the DELL forums, seems to be a hardware failure on the system board.

Strangely seems that Vista is not affected by this as I assume you have XP.

The hard drive has failed, or windows 7 is not compatable with the laptop. Try installing vista, if this works! there is a problem with windows 7, no change! have the hardware checked for possible replacement.

I have an inspiron 6400, and when i start the laptop i get the dell screen and the bar running across then just a black screen, i have tries using all of the options of F8 and F12 but none of them do...

Your computer is not booting up and it can be either software or hardware problem. You can check out the software part by trying to boot it with the original OS CD/DVD. If it does boot then you will need to reinstall windows by using the repair option by following the on-screen instructions.

If it fails to boot up then its a problem of the hardware. It could be as simple as cleaning the ram modules or more complicated, hence I would advice you seek help from their authorized service center.

DST Error 0146 Help me to fix.

Well DST means "Drive Self Test" which indicates that your HDD is failing. have you dropped your laptop by accident recently? If so, open it up and see if any of the cables are loose.

Do you still have your original Windows OS Disc? If you do then you could try booting the
recovery console and run chkdsk /r

Hopefully you can get windows to boot, and you can backup your data

I had a similar problem. I fitted a new hard drive loaded windows and on the first re boot i had no OS again.
I went into the bios checked the boot order and also the hard drive booting options. My settings had unticked the hard drive as a bootable drive. When i ticked it and installed the original HD it worked again.
At least i have a spare Hard drive in the draw :)

Do you have the original disk that came with your computer? If so just insert it into your cd drive, boot from the CD, restore software. Restore OS and all drivers too.

DELL inspiron 6400 not switched on

This is a no boot issue. Youre saying that you can perfectly run the PSA diagnostics but doesnt load Windows rather it stays on black screen, meaning the boot loader of Windows failed to load. You need to reinstall windows on your computer

Constant blue screen when I attempt to boot up have encountered the "Blue Screen of Death" - BsoD . This s a general prob in Windows systems. Try formatting ur drive and reinstall the OS. The bad sectors in ur HDD wud have caused such a blue screen.
