Security Code problem enwood KDC319

My b/f bought a truck with a Kenwood KDC 319 stereo. It asks for a security code. There is a remote in the glove box. He changed the battery in the car and didn't have a code from the previous vehicle owner so after the battery was removed, no more tunes. What next?

You can clear this code, but you must use the remote to do it.

Step 1 below is the only part of this procedure that you do not use the remote.

1. While the code entry is requested, press and hold the
VOL UP key for 3 seconds while holding the DISP key
pressed. (This should turn "----" off.)
2. Enter "KCAR" from the remote. (Same way as the 01
model)
• Press the 5 key on the remote twice, then press the
Track Up key. (This enters "K".)
• Press the 2 key on the remote 3 times, then press
the Track Up key. (This enters "C".)
• Press the 2 key on the remote once, then press the
Track Up key. (This enters "A".)
• Press the 7 key on the remote twice, then press the
Track Up key. (This enters "R".)
3. The security code is cleared and the unit enters the
ALL OFF mode.
4. If you commit a mistake in the code entry, the unit
enters the code request mode again.

I hope this helps, if you have any questions feel free to post them right here on this thread and I will answer as soon as possible.

I would look in all the papers that came with the truck and hope you have a manual for the radio. the security code was set when the radio was initially installed. its a theft deterrent. without the security code, you are out of luck and will need to get a new one but maybe you can try 0000 or 1111 or 1234 or something to that effect.
