Question about Hunter 27185 Remote Control

1 Answer

I installed hunter fan yesterday i also put hunter remote 21857 on it. the fan works fine and the light operates with the remote. however the light will come on by itself anywhere from 10-15 minutes after turning the light off with the remote. this happens even when no one is in the room. i have other remote but they have different codes and they wont operate this fan. also if i turn the light off with wall switch to reset the remote it will not turn on by itself then.

We have an old Hunter ceiling fan with 5 pins, we just bought a replacement remote with 4 pins. With all pins "on" on both the receiver and remote - the low fan button turns on the light, when pressed a second time - nothing, but the reverse button will turn the fan. Please help o receiver in settings.

Fan buttons work the light. Light button does nothing. No button causes fan to operate. What's wrong?

If there are pull-chain switches on the fixture, their operation may have caused remote control to fail. Turn off power at the source, pause for a few minutes, and turn on power. Either fan or light control, or both, may work. If not, you will have to figure out which pull-chain operation makes things right again. To avoid future problems, disconnect the pull chains at the link so only the remote controls operation.

I have had the same problem with the light coming on intermittently by itself. At first I also could not change the settings and have the remote work with the new settings. But I found out that when you change the dip switch of the receiver you must turn off the power using the wall switch or the circuit breaker and turn it back on before the receiver will use the new dip setting. I am still waiting to see if the light will come back on after changing the dip switches from 1-on, 2-on, 3-on, 4-off to 1-off, 2-on, 3-on, 4-on and the remote's jumpers from 1-jumpered, 2-jumpered, 3-jumpered, 4- no jumper to 1-no jumper, 2-jumpered, 3-jumpered, 4- jumpered.

Can't control light at switch

It is wired so that you control the light with the remote. You cannot have it both ways. You either control it with the wall switch or the remote. Once you kill the power to the receiver by turning off power at the wall switch, you are only applying power to the receiver when you turn power back on. You are not supplying power to the light. You then must turn on the light with the remote. This is the purpose of a remote fan/light control. You could rewire it to control the light with the switch and only control the fan with the remote if you wish, but as you have it now, it is working correctly.

Hunter Fan - Remote

Most likely the fan turns on with a wall switch and then as long as the power is there [ wall switch left in on position], the remote works

Installed new hunter westminster and the lights work but no fan. and how do i get my hunter remote to work with fan?

begin by unscrewing one wire nut at a time to be sure that the wires are tightly twisted together before the wire nut is reinstlled. Once you have the fan working manually, the remote will also work.

Fan does not work, light does

Hello,

Your remote uses a slightly different band of IR for one and the other functions; lamp or on/off. This IR lamp or the circuit that controls the IR lamp has failed. You will need a new remote.

Hunter is good about making replacement parts available but as you said this is five years old. You may have to look for an after market seller on Ebay and chances are very good you can find a new one there.

Dip switch settings

I've had the same problem w/ light turning on/off. Called customer support and 3x waited 6 minutes to leave message and get no call back. Finally got a human and she told me to change code in receiver and transmitter. This was no easy task as the fan is very high up and the stupid thing needs to come down to adjust the receiver. Changed the setting and it worked for two days until it started back with the lights turning on at all hours. I noticed there's a toggle switch in the remote that is not explained in the manual. It says CFL on one side and INC on the other. The light will NOT dim if it's in CFL and tonight is the first time I've switched it to that setting. I'm hoping this is some kind of lockout for random signals going out of the remote...It would be nice to have a proper explanation in the manual. I should have gone with another Casablanca fan--Hunter products are lame.
