I'm sorry, I didnt clarify. The commputer works perfect all the time in every aspect except for the wireless password page - It only allows the number keys to work for that blank.

Sounds like keyboard or motherboard damage. Did you get the unit wet or drop it or something?

Can't say what the problem might precisely be but how about typing the full key into Notepad and then copy/paste into the wireless key facility?

Some people are hacking my router through my local area network i want to stop it

If you have your wireless network unsecured then yeah people can just hop on and borrow your internet, login to your computers and cause problems. Follow the user guide http://homesupport.cisco.com/en-us/wireless/lbc/WRT150N Start on Page 11, also change the default login for the router.
Configure WPA2 - PSK2 Personal wireless security with a password at least 10 in length and containing Upper and lower case letters numbers and special characters such as ! @ # $ % WPA2, not WPA is extremely difficult to hack into. Not impossible but very difficult. You could do MAC filtering but it's kind of useless since mac's can be spoofed very easily. So do the WPA2 and you should be fine.

Cant find wep key

You will need to access the router (via its local web address using a suitable web browser) Once you have provided the login information, surf to the wireless security section and either document the WEP key (if not encrypted) or change it. Understand that changing the WEP key will invalidate any else's access, so be sure to share the change. The WEP key may have to be done in HEX, meaning that it must be done with the numerals 0-9 and ONLY the letters A-F. The ket must also be a specific length, usually 13 or 26 characters depending on the requirements of the router.

Trying to apply network key

Hello,
You need your PC connected to the Router via cable, then open Internet Explorer.
In the Address bar type 192.160.100.1 and press enter, for login enter admin and for password enter motorola, now you should see a Motorola window with all the settings.

On the left side select Wireless, a different window will appear.

In the Security Mode field, select WPA and click Apply.
Skip the portion about WEP and go below.

Under WPA CONFIGURATION, for WPA Encryption choose TKIP and for WPA Authentication choose Local (WPA-PSK)

Under Local there is WPA Passphrase, here enter your desired password; try not to forget the password in the future or you have to repeat the steps above, also try to use a combination of letter and numbers.

Click on save changes and you have finish, now you can close explorer.

Please let me know if you need additional help.

regards

I have a 2wire wireless adapter card for my laptop computer i can not configure it because the numbers that came with the product are too long and it wont allow me to put them in

The numbers that you need to connect to your wireless network are determined by your router.

If you have security on your router, you need to use the same type of security on the adapter card. You will also need to know they key from the router.

If you don't know your router's key, you will need to login to the router to determine the key. You normally just need to login with your browser to the router. Because I don't know which router you have, I can't tell you the address of your router.

However, you can get the address of your router by going to a computer that uses the router. Following this series of commands
  • start
  • run
  • cmd (type in)
  • in the black window, type "ipconfig"
  • note the "Gateway" address
On this same machine go to your browser and type, http://192.168.X.X where X.X are the last parts of the Gateway address. When you go to the router. It may ask for a password. Common users/passwords are: admin/admin , admin / (just enter) , admin / password.

You can then look on the wireless settings to find your network key.

Hope that helps. Good luck.

Setup of password security

you will need to login to your router- you do this by typing a number into a web browser Internet explorer is best as some routers do not work with other browsers the number will be in the manual - if still set to default something like 192.168.0.1 and the then the username and password - default is admin
You can get a user manual from this site http://www.dlink.co.uk/cs/Satellite?c=TechSupport_C&childpagename=DLinkEurope-GB%2FDLTechProduct&cid=1197319456070&p=1197318962293&packedargs=locale%3D1195806691854&pagename=DLinkEurope-GB%2FDLWrapper

Once logging in - choose wireless section and the the wireless security - you can enter your passcode and th etype of security WPA, WEP Note: WPA does require the correct hardware on the machine, so if you have old machine that will be connected WPA may not allow them to work

Wireless is not secure

Step 1 Log into the Router

by entering it’s IP address into a browser. The default IP address is http://192.168.1.1. At the login, enter your username (admin) and password (admin).

Examples:
Authentication type:WEP WEP
Type: Open
System Mode: Hex WEP
Key: 64-bit Key 1: 0000000000
Note: For WEP you can choose ASCII or HEX modes.
64bit ASCII = 5 digit ASCII key.
64bit HEX = 10 digit HEX key. (Can only use letters A~F and numbers)
128bit ASCII = 13 digit ASCII key.
128bit HEX = 26 digit HEX key. (Can only use letters A~F and numbers)
You can also choose WPA

Wi-Fi Protected Access (WPA) is becoming the wireless security standard. It is a higher level of security than WEP that combines encryption and authentication to create an unbreakable level of protection. For small office and home users the WPA preshared key (WPA-PSK) is the easiest set up and does not involve a Certificate Authority Server, which is recommended for small and large business customers. Once the preshared key is set-up on each network device, every packet sent over the wireless network will receive its own encryption key under the Temporal Key Integrity Protocol (TKIP). A key benefit to WPA is that it is backward compatible with WEP-only devices. For those users looking to ensure those who share keys are who they claim to be a Certificate Authority Server or RADIUS Server can be added. This requires a more complicated set-up and is not recommended for smaller networks. Also, one thing to note is that WPA adds to the packet size, typical transmissions will take longer.'); return false">WPA

Hi!
To access the router's web interface for configuration, you need a PC that's physically connected to the router (ethernet connection). Follow these steps:

Step 1 Open your Internet browser and type the IP address of the router in the address bar (http://192.168.1.1) . The default IP address is 192.168.1.1 . At the login, leave the username blank and type your password (default password is admin). Click the OK button.

Step 2 To setup security, Click the Wireless tab > then select Wireless Security (right below the Wireless tab).

Step 3 Under Wireless Security, you can either select WEP or WPA for wireless security.

When selecting WEP 64 bits: (for windows XP SP1 to Vista)

Look for Key 1 box - type a 10 hexadecimal password (meaning letters A to F or numbers 0 to 9 only). Example: ABC1234567 or 985D8A8F04 .

When selecting WEP 128 bits (for XP SP2 to Vista)

Look for Key 1 box - type a 26 character Hexadecimal code.

When selecting WPA PErsonal: (XP SP2 to Vista)

Look for a passphrase box - type a password at least 8 characters (numbers or letters).

Please DO NOT FORGET the password that you set - you will need this for wireless connection.

Click Save settings.

I hope that helps!

Good luck and have a nice day!

Dell D600 - Linksys wireless router/adapter

Seems there is a problem with the Linksys since there is not any lights coming on. Did you plug it into a switched outlet in the wall? Does it work if you plug the Linksys into an outlet in another room?
If you can get it to light up, the way you will access it is through your web browser. Type in 192.168.1.1 into your web browser and a login in screen should pop up.
