Question about Whirlpool LER4634J Electric Dryer

1 Answer

Dryer not drying completely

We have had our set for about 5 years now. For the last few years we have had to double run our clothes in the dryer. We have replaced the ducting to the outside, so I am confident that is not the issue. The lint trap and area just to the bottom have been cleaned out. We have even gone to using a long brush to reach down inside the lint area. Our machine still needs to be run twice. I usually put 6 pairs of jeans in the washer and then dry. Over the years, it becomes more time consuming. Obviously smaller loads dry well, but the loads havent changed.
Thank you.

i don't know if the number to this post is accurate. My unit is an Ultimate Care 2 by Whirlpool. The model number is GEQ9800LW0. If the heater element is the problem, how do I go about repairing this?

Since no model number was given, check to see if you have a setting commonly noted as "wrinkle guard", "wrinkle shield", "press care" or something to that affect. Those settings will run the dryer for as much as 90 min after a completed drying cycle to prevent wrinkles in clothing, allowing you time to remove the cloths after a dry cycle if you are busy. Hi,

If your dryer is not drying like it once did or if you just have nottaken the time to give yourself a clean dryer in a long time then youneed to do that. At least once a year the dryer cleaning should takeplace. Lint build up in the dryer duct is one of the main causesfor your dryer to fail.

Your dryer has a double set of heating elements
themobilian_2122.jpg
1 side of the coils is probably broken and you are getting half the heat.
This is making the dryer take longer to dry them clothes.
themobilian_2123.jpg
themobilian_2124.jpg
Air restrictions in the dryer and vent can cause the heater control to shut down quickly also.
If you have a bad breaker the power will sometimes work and sometimes not.
themobilian_2125.jpg
If all of these are good you might have a problem with the timer.

Most of the GE timers have leaf switches in the that get a burr on the contacts. The come apart simple enough.

Clothes don't dry completely

Check your breaker. An electric dryer works on 220 volts, which is two 110 volts put together, but on separate lines. Those breakers have to be separated all the way from the transformer. So, if you have one breaker for the dryer, you will be okay, usually on a double pole, double throw breaker. Sometimes they are wired into two different breakers. The motor is on one breaker, and the heating element is on the other breaker. So, if they aren't on a breaker that is made as a double unit, the heating element can trip one breaker, and since they aren't made together as a unit where it will shut the whole dryer down, the motor in the dryer will still run, and the drum will still turn. It just won't dry clothes. Now, if you have made sure your power is ok, which i have no way of knowing if you just moved there, you had the dryer working in that spot for fifteen years, or what. So, if you have had it there for a while and it runs and it does not dry, and the breakers aren't tripped, then you need a new heating coil in the dryer. They burn out, just like toasters go bad, they work on the same principle. It is not that hard to replace one, just look at how the old one is before you remove it, and install the new one in the same way.
