Vertical circuit problem. VERY common on Mitsubishi sets for past 30 years. The capacitors are getting weak. Have it checked out, aslong as the picture was good and clear before the problem. That just means the tubes are still O.K. Mitsubishi's ALL have bad capacitors all over them. Been like that for ever. If you wait too long, the caps will leak onto the circuit board and "eat" the circuit traces. It should be checked ALL over for bad caps and then have the convergance chips replaced with original sanyo made replacements.Very inportant! Take the time to find a good repairshop in your area. Talk to other people to see who they use. You're talking about $400.00 to do everything, but it will last for years after that. If you like the set, it's worth it. Just be honest to your-self when evaluating the quaility of picture you had and get a good repair shop. That's the best advise I can give you. Good-Luck.

Based on what you described I would say your TV has the "shrinking and expanding" fault. Its a common problem on that model and the symptoms can range from the video shrinking and expanding or no video or no audio....You can read more about this fix on the site www.TvRepairKits.com

TV screen shrinking from top to bottom.

My Dearest, j30;

It sounds like you have a problem in the 9 volt circuit which feeds the vertical output ciruit; CHECK C2P05 100 UFD 16 V OFF PIN 3 OF IC2P01 AND IC2P01 PART # 270P466020 (9-VOLT REGULATOR). BOTH ARE ON THE SIGNAL PCB.
This is not a repair that a novice should try, but if you call a factory authorized service center and have them come out and give you an estimate; AND tell them what the problem is, you will look know what you are talking about!

NO PICTURE HAS SOUND

When you say small do you mean shrunk up top and bottom as well as from side to side. You definitely have a deflection problem either horizontal or vertical.If the picture just shrunk top and bottom you have a vertical deflection problem. Do you have the service manual for your model? If not let me know and I will email you one. Describe the shrinking issue a little more and I should be able to give you some guidance.

Shrinking picture

All symptoms indicate a problem in the vertical circuit,the first thing to look for will be loose conection on the vertical output IC,sometimes this IC goes bad completly and it needs to be replaced.If you are familiar with soldering electronics you can take care of it but if you are not too familiar you can play it safe and take it to a servicer ,it will be a lot less expensive than if they come to your house.Let Us know how it goes or if you need more information.
