You could try uninstalling the USB items in Device Manager and allow them to be reinstalled. Also verify USB is enabled in the BIOS.

USB dongle installs alright but does not detect GSM signal and does not show on any port

Hello, try using the dongle on another computer, If it works fine then the dongle has a problem initializing on your usb ports. Remove all usb devises, restart your computer and try again. If the problem remains check device manager (Right on Computer and click Properties, and then Device Manager) for any usb devices not properly removed (they will have the yellow warning sign), right click in them and choose uninstall.
Hope this helps, Thanks for using FixYa

My usb port do not work. It did not recognize any devise.

Use Device Manager to disable and re-enable all the USB controllers. This lets the controllers recover the USB port from its unresponsive condition. The USB controllers represent the USB ports in Device Manager. If you are not comfortable with advanced troubleshooting, try the steps in the "Workaround" section.
To disable and re-enable the USB controllers, follow these steps: Click Start, and then click Run.
Note If you are running Windows Vista, click Start, and then use the Start Search box. Type devmgmt.msc, and then click OK. Device Manager opens. Expand Universal Serial Bus controllers.
Note You might have to scroll down the list to find this item. Right-click the first USB controller under Universal Serial Bus controllers, and then click Uninstall to remove it. Repeat step 4 for each USB controller that is listed under Universal Serial Bus controllers. Restart the computer. After the computer starts, Windows will automatically scan for hardware changes and reinstall all the USB controllers that you uninstalled. Check the USB device to see whether it is working.
hope this helps

Have you tried a restore to an earlier date, choose a date on which the ports were still active. You can also roll back drivers by clicking start, click control panel, click system, click hardware, click devise manager, click on universal serial bus controllers, rt click on your usb port if it is there and choose update driver. Good luck.

You can get a PCMCIA adapter with 4 USB v.2.0 slots on eBay. It requires power from the USB port on the laptop, but the pigtail connector is included. Works like a charm! Comes from China just like everything else in this country.
