Remove screen on Toshiba Satellite 2450

Hi,

My Toshiba Satellite 2450's screen is dying (i.e., the light intensity flickers and then it goes black). For the past few months, I have noticed that the screen has become loose and the grey speaker case on the lefthand side is higher than the the one on the righthand side.

I would like to remove the screen to see if there is a loose connection somewhere. Could you please advise me on the best way to do this?

Thanks!

    Hi,

Thanks for the link/guide. Unfortunately, I don't think the screen's securing strip comes off in quite the same way. I'm attaching a photo of what it looks like with the securing strip off.

    Thanks for your help.

Once again thanks. I used your link as a base to find a computer model closer to the one I have and so used the following link to remove the screen:http://www.irisvista.com/tech/laptops/To...

What I discovered in the end was that one of the hinges was entirely broken. Will need to find a replacement hinge (bracket). Any ideas on this?

Here is a pic of my hinge break:

Unfortunately, because of the break I have been unable to pursue the display issue. All of the connectors were secure as far as I could tell from simple inspection. Ideally, I would like to test the screen now that I have taken it all apart. However I would need to reassemble the entire computer, and without the hinge's bracket (which is broken) I am uneasy to do so. The flip side is that if the screen problem is not simply resolved, purchasing a new hinge may not be worthwhile in the long run.

After much careful re-assembly, I put the laptop back together again, but the screen's problem persists (blank).

It appears the hinge has come loose and possibly the video and/or inverter connection. Here as a disassembly guide for a different model, I'm sure how similar it is: http://www.irisvista.com/tech/laptops/Toshiba2435/sat2435_LCD.htm
Be sure to remove the battery and check the bottom of the laptop for any screws that may secure the cover.

Oh, I see. From what I can see, at this point you still do not have access to the display connector or the hinges. Can you tell if the speaker enclosures are removeable individually or if they are part of the entire palmrest assembly?

It's good you found the problem before it got worse. I'd look for refurbished parts possibly on ebay.

Were you able to find the cause of the display issue.

You have a faulty LCD inverter board.. Go here for instructions on how to replace and find a new one, or you can search on ebay for one. http://www.irisvista.com/tech/laptops/Toshiba-Satellite-A105/remove-replace-LCD-screen-1.htm

Flickering Screen on Model P105 Toshiba Satellite

on the back of the LCD is a cable that goes from there to the Motherboard. Try reseating that cable on both ends. If that doesn't fix it then it has to be a problem with either the screen or the cable behind the screen.

Toshiba Satellite A105 Display

If you've replaced the LCD Panel already, then chances are good, the failing part may be the FLR inverter. It's a thin little chip about 3 or 4 inches in length that bridges the connection between the LCD and the motherboard. It's location varies from computer to computer though, so you may have to check with manufacturer documentation. They're not too terribly expensive to replace though, much cheaper than the LCD panel, anyways.
