When I bought my Canon MV200 it did not support DV in, but by changing just two instructions in the firmware, it became an MV200i, which did have DV in. Unfortunately, the MV200i met with a horrible fate, so I now have an MV700, and would like to know if a similar POKE is possible to turn it into an MV700i. I have searched this and other forums (forae?) but cannot find any similar solution.

I have one of these. Sounds like you have a fault. Try removing the battery and any tapes. Also you might want to try and replacing the penny size battery it has which keeps the time and date up to date.
When did it last work and what did you last do with it. eg. if you've taken it out of a cold storage such as a loft and then into a warm place you might find that it fails to work because of condensation build up in the internal circuits. Keep it it a warm place for a while and see if it makes any difference.

Hi
There is no reason why it shouldn't work. When you attach the camera via firewire the operating system will recognise and show an icon in the bottom right corner. Then whichever application you use to capture the video, when you select the option to capture video via DV it should bring up a little preview window with buttons for rewind, play, forward, pause, stop etc. using these onscreen buttons you can control the camera to set to the correct scene prior to capture. Also you might want to try not playing back a tape for capture but video directly through the viewfinder.
And yes its not that easy to edit DV video after capture. Though the quality is brilliant.

On the cannon website it says there are no driver downloads for the camera altho when i downloaded the instructions it says:
"Optional software is required for transferring recordings
from the tape to a computer. Refer to the instruction manual of the software."
