Have you checked your display adapter settings? Check the display settings in control panel. Make sure you are viewing the screen at a decent resolution. 800/600 or larger. Let me know what happens. Good Luck, Tim

The text along the sides of the tv screen are not completely in view

you need to change the 'zoom' on the tv by the remote.
Normal mode frames the 4:3 video to the 16:9 picture area by displaying it in its original aspect ratio, with vertical gray or black bars on both sides of the screen. The disadvantage of this method is the fact that the image is small by virtue of not using the entire width of the screen. This is also known as the 4:3 mode.
Full mode Full mode horizontally stretches the 4:3 video evenly across the entire width of the screen. This is the proper mode to display anamorphic video. If used for standard aspect ratio video, everything on the screen will appear wider than normal. Contrast this with anamorphic video displayed without processing on a 4:3 display, in which people on the screen will appear taller than normal. This is also known as the 16:9 mode.
Zoom mode Zoom mode evenly stretches the picture both horizontally and vertically, until the picture fills the entire width of the screen. This crops out the top and bottom of the picture. This mode is used for letterboxed and open matte video.
14:9 mode Main article: 14:9
In 14:9 mode, the picture is magnified more than in Normal mode, but less than in Zoom mode, while retaining the original aspect ratio.
Wide Zoom mode Wide Zoom mode, also called Just mode, Horizon, or Smart Stretch, progressively stretches the picture horizontally, less in the middle and more on the edges. This allows normal aspect ratio video to be displayed across the entire width of the screen, with minimal cropping, and with much less of the unpleasing visual stretching effect of Full mode.

What is cost of yoke for panasonic ct tv?

You're discussing about the width problem to picture. If yoke have a short in between its wingdings [even a single winding short], will cause the failure of horizontal output transistor. As per you report here, the set has a raster, but problem is with the picture width.
There possibliliites for this fault are.
1. Lack of voltage from the SMPS power supply output.
2. Horizontal width capacitor.
3. Horizontal output capacitor.
Check the output voltage from the SMPS section first, and confirm that it is OK.

Are you using the laptop screen or using a larger monitor or projecting the slide show? The screen resolution on the Sony may need to be adjusted.

The same way you adjust your PC monitor screen; you can adjust your Visio TV. Menu button will get you into the settings and you will go to picture--then "More" --there you will find vert and horizontal adjustments...find the right one for you.

Width increases a bit on lowering and incresing resolution

Hence my earlier suggestion of lowering the resolution, it was actually a test.

Now we are getting somewhere. Yoke is definitely out, opposing diode pair is also out. The remote chance of the horizontal sync/oscillator is also out. That leaves us only with a possible resistor that has gone up in value (or is open) (least likely) and/or a capacitor (most likely) that has leaked, bulged or whose capacitance has gone down.

Perhaps a service manual would be of more help.

Good luck.

JVC AV-28WFX EUS1 unstable image

Hello, I think you have a faulty "horizontal width" or horizontal
linearity preset pot. This pot will be located on the main PCB
and you can adjust it with a small screw driver, when you do the
picture will shift from left to right or vice versa, or move back to fill each side. If it wont hold after making the adjustments then the pots ( potentiometers) need replacing, which means unsoldering them from the printed circuit board( PCB) and take them in to your local radio shop for new ones. By the way you might need 2 pots ( 1 for the WIDTH and 1 for the LINEARITY)
Good luck.
