I have the same problem on a DX2300, I replaced the motor with a new one and tested it without the drum and the motor spun but it would not stay running if i let off the start button. I put the drum and everything back together and it wouldn't spin. So I took the drum back out checked rechecked everything, retested the motor and now the motor won't spin. I only get a hum when i turn it to start.

Dryer was running I opened the door took clothes out shut the door but not all the way just till it was in the full up position. Then went back later and put some clothes in and hit the start button and...

i had this same problem it sounds like a thermal fuse its usualy a small device white mabe with 2 wires connected to it on the back of your dryer there might be a cover plate but you shouldn't have to tear into your dryer, you can also check em with an Ohms tester,to see if the thermal fuse is working properly

I did not use my GE dryer last night nor this morning. When I went into my laundry room this morning, the dryer was hot and so was the room.

You should unplug your unit if you have not already done so. The problem is the start switch is stuck in the on position, this can happen when the switch fails (melted inside). You will need to replace the start switch. They are usually inexpensive and easy to replace. Here is a link that should help http://appliancehelponline.com/dryerselectorswitch.html the video is of the selector switch but the start switch will be similar. Enter your model # if you need diagrams and illustrations of your specific model.

When I turn the start button nothing happens except a buzzing sound...no tumbling happens even if the dryer is empty.

Hi,
There are two causes for this...bad motor or broken belt... If you are getting a buzzing sound then I would vote for the motor...

Check out a tip that I wrtoe about this...

Ge dryer model #DHDSR46EE1WW. Dryer will not run- just makes loud humming noise. Replaced the start switch and it still will not run at all. PLEASE HELP!

You most likely have a bad motor. Try to spin the dryer drum by hand with the door open, door swich held or taped down, and while pressing start. This will likely get the motor going. If this works try closing the door and starting it again. If it works now the motor may have just had a hard time starting do to it's position or the drum's postition. If it only works when you help it out manually you have a bad motor or maybe a sticky drum/jammed belt/etc. Good luck!
