Question about Logitech QuickCam Pro 9000 Web Cam
I am having difficulty using the Logitech quickcam pro 9000 with gmail's gchat application.
Steps I've taken:
1) Installed the quickcam pro 9000 following the instructions provided by Logitech.
2) Searched for updates to the logitech software and installed them
3) Installed the browser plugin from google for use in the google chat program.
4) Uninstalled the google plugin and reinstalled it.
5) Rebooted several times
If I use the logitech software, I get video and audio but when I'm in google chat, I don't get any video. Gmail/gchat recognizes my webcam and receives audio through its microphone but the test screen in the gmail settings tab is black (and it should be showing a video of me). The red light on the webcam doesn't turn on when I'm trying to use gchat but does when I'm using the logitech software to shoot video or take a picture.
I had this problem but I fixed it. The google chat uninstaller does not uninstall everything. Go to the hidden folder Application Data of the default or local user in the Documents and Settings folder of the C drive, you will find the plugin folder for google chat. Delete it and then reinstall the plugin and it will work.
C:\Documents and Settings\Joe\Application Data

I had exactly the same problem as everyone else - in XP, no picture in the black box even though it says it recognizes my cam. It all worked with yahoo messenger, but not with google. I just got a new computer with Vista (and updated the newest version of logitech) and presto, now the video works fine in google (IE but not Firefox). The sound still has problems - a 5 second delay and isn't that clear. My daughter and I use our cell phones now but still wonder why the google chat sound isn't right. Anyway, changing operating systems AND updating to the newest logitech version seemed to do the trick. Don't know whether the computer or the update did it though. Also,

Google has admitted that the video chat does not work on computers with CPUs that do not have the SSE2 instruction set.
This includes many AMD processors prior to the Athlon 64 Including the XP, MP, Duron and Sempron. Intel Processors prior to the Pentium 4 likely do not include this function either.
On their groups page Google's staff indicate that they are working on a fix to this limitation.
