My thomson DTI6300-16 red light keeps flashing

On Dec 3 whilst looking at the program guide I chose a chanel to watch and pressed OK. Then the unit shutdown ans the power light started to flash. I have lelt the unit powered down for 3 days also left the unit on for a day but with no sucess. On searching the internet I have found a number of people have suffered the same fault arround the same date.
Can you help or do I bin the unit.

    My Thomson DTI6300-16 has the same problem, On Tues 2nd Dec whilst checking the recordings, the screen went black and a FLASHING RED LIGHT on front of box.It doesn't respond to the controls so I rang Top-up TV who said they were aware of this problem but have no fix for it at present!! they told me to continue calling them to see if they find a cure to fix it !!!!
    I've had this approx 10 mths and bought it new from a trader called 'dti store' on ebay
    Has any body else had this and fixed it?

    My DTI 6300-16 developed the same fault. I have turned power off overnight but still it does the same. Does it mean the end for my unit or can it be rectified. My unit is 1 year and one month old. My in laws have the same unit but no problems yet, but will that one go the same way?

    Bought my thomsons digital recorder in april 2008. On december 30 the red light began flashing. Switched it off for a while, plugged it out and then plugged it in again but the red light continues to flash.

    Just experienced the same problem with my Thomson DTI6300-16 too, tried turning it off, unplugging it for 10 mins still to no avail, if this is a common fault then Thomson need to do something about offering a replacement or a solution. Has anyone got any advice at all about how this can be rectified before I go down this route?

    Yeah, same here only mine happened the day after the warranty expired, which leaves me thinking it is a dowloaded fault or pre programmed, as many people have the same problem but thomson just say they do not yet have an answer.

    My DTI 6300-16 has developed the same fault and it is exactly 1 year and one month old. This happened tonight. DONT BUY THIS HEAP OF ....... so fed up because i record a lot of tv and im to skint to buy another one.................Wont by thomson again....

    I have the same problem as everyone else on here with the flashing light. Had for one year and one month when it went wrong. They gave me several options to try by switching off, holding buttons etc to no avial. The lady said if that did not work it was the hard drive that had gone. Ive got a friend on the case at the mo as good with computers etc, any luck i will let people know, but have a feeling it will be going in the bin.

    Identical! One year and one month to the day! Have tried the usual rebooting over various lengths of time from one minute to 30 minutes with the dtr switched off with no success. Am now trying with it off overnight. Bought mine off fleabay and have pinged off an email to the seller. Hopefully will get some kind of response.
    Why does Thomson not have a website/contact details? The instruction manual doesn't offer any help of this kind either - that seems strange.
    Will post with more info.

    panel lamp constantly flashes red and remains in this condition after
    some 5 minutes or so then try powering off and on again at the mains.

    If this condition persist (sic) then the box may have encountered a fatal problem.

    In this case, please call 08444 159 159 and a member of the Technical Team will be happy to help."
    NB Calls cost about 5p/min apparently - I've yet to ring them (haven't got hours spare just yet) but have sent an email requesting a step by step guide for this specific problem. Doesn't look promising though does it?

    Got the chance to ring...
    You need to use options 1 then 4 then 1 again when you ring (saves listening to all the automated messages)
    If and when you speak to someone they'll ask if you are a subscriber (to TUTV) (I'm not and never have been - I haven't had the chance to catch up on my own recordings let alone something 'extra' like TUTV or TUTV+Movies).
    They gave me two options
    1. Buy a refurbished unit for £49.99 (Not one that has previously suffered FRLOD I suggested)
    2. Have a 'free' unit but subscribe to one of the two extras above - £9.99pm and £14.99pm respectively.
    Apparently there is no known cause for the FRLOD and it can, and does, happen at anytime - which they are implying that the number of 13 month occurrences on these forums is coincedence.
    I don't think this is a definitive answer but hope you can use this info - however you like.

    The Amber light is supposed to come on for about a minute before it changes to red. At this point it can be switched on. Now , after about a year, the amber light just flashes constantly. Is this the same problem you are talking about ? I've opened the box and looked inside. I've removed the hard drive and plugged into my pc. The drive is ok. I am wondering if the unit has overheated. I removed the fan and tested. The fan is working. I need a miracle to get this thing working, HELP !

    Yep DTI6300-16 did the flashing red light last night. I've extracted the hard drive & it appears fine. Write-ups on the 'net talk of forcing it to re-format its hard drive. These had the file system as NTFS/FAT32, but mine is all LINUX ext2 partitions (there are 3 of them). The only thing that looks strange is one of them is 100% full - could that be the issue? I've copied the files using a windows utility to read the LINUX files just in case I can play the AV files (file extension .TRP which is a type of MPEG2 for TV recording apparently). Am going to try to force the unit to re-format itself.

    TopUpTV wash their hands of it although there appears to be a lot of people getting the same only a short time after a recent software upgrade - connected?

    I too have the Thomson DTi6300-16 box with the flashing red light. It happened on Tuesday 28/04/2009 at about 22:30 just after I managed to delete a recording from the library and then the light started flashing. Nothing I do seems to work. Tried the TOPUPTV help desk and was told that the software was corrupt then I was cut off without getting a solution to the problem. Anybody out there got any (polite) suggestions

There is a known power supply fault on Thomson boxes. If you go to you`ll be able to order the parts needed. Be aware, you`ll have to be able to use soldering irons etc. as this requires you to remove components and refit new ones.

Three digit remote code with Sky with Murphy TV are:

132 244 191 502 100

Sky+ Remote Control Unit Programming Procedure Follow the steps below

1. Select any channel on the TV.

2. Point your Sky+ remote control away from the TV and press the tv button.

3. Press and hold down the Select and red buttons simultaneously on the Sky+ remote control until the red light at the top of the Sky+ remote control flashes twice.

4. Input the 3 digit number from the Sky+ remote control codes then press the Select button. The red light at the top of the Sky+ remote control should flash twice.

5. Point the Sky+ remote control at the TV and try the volume button.

If this works try the other TV functions.

If these work then the correct code has been selected.

It's important to note that not all TV functions will be supported by the Sky+ remote control e.g. Picture in Picture.

If all functions do not work correctly, then repeat steps 1 - 3 and work through all the relevant 3 digit numbers from the Sky+ remote control codes, until you find the code which supports all or as many of the TV functions as possible.

Red Flashing lights - How to fix

Hi there

The red flashing lights problem is alomost as big as the Yellow light of death.

What is the Red light flashing problem

This one is self explanitry you know you have this when you turn on your PS3 and and it has red flashing lights and won't come on.

The causes

Ok so with this one its similar to the Yellow light of death Tip when the GPU (display chip) has come away from the motherboard you get the red flashing lights, remeber to try prevent this is to have a very good ventilated PS3 do not keep it in a small space. The heat build up melts the soldering which keeps the GPU connected to the motherboard. once connections is lost you get the red flashing lights.

The Solutions

Solution 1
Ok so you can send the console off to sony they will collect it, repair it and send it back, this will usually cost you $150

Solution 2
My favourite solution is the PS3 repair guide, you can fix the problem within the hour, costs are below $40 and you don't need to be technical at all.

solution 3
Buy a new PS3 console over $200 this is the last resort.

Wont cut on then a yellow light comes on then a lashing re light appears

The PS3 red light problem occurs when your system refuses to boot up and has a small flashing red light on the power button. In most cases, the power button will turn from red to yellow and then back to a blinking red and the system will not boot up from there as it is supposed to.
There can be a variety of issues that cause the Playstation 3 red light problem, but in most cases it comes down to the system overheating. The more it overheats the more damage is created internally to the
motherboard and other functioning components. This can be caused simply by a flaw in the system or by obstructions to the fan vent such as a wall, floor, or excessive collection of dust.
Unplugging the unit from the wall and checking all the external components is a first step, but here are some further tips that will help you find a real fix for your PS3 red light flashing issues.

For starters, look at your warranty and see if it is still in effect. The only reason you should ever consider sending your console to Sony is if there is a valid warranty and they agree to fix it completely free. Otherwise, they simply charge too much and take way too long to even consider going this route.
If you do have a warranty still open, consider whether you are willing to wait a minimum of 6 weeks to have it returned and if you can accept having all of your stored date wiped off the unit before it is returned to you. Hi, I was trying to clean the memory chips on my xbox 360 elite's motherboard -- cause I had put some thermal grease on them, but I forgot that thermal grease remover (Arctic Silver) should be put on any...

Hi 4 red rings means the video lead is not put in the back of the console properly so take the leads out and try them again.

if they are fitted correctly switch it on and when you get the flashing red lights do the following

when all lights are flashing hold down the little white round wireless button and keep holding it down whilst you do the following.

whilst holding the button down press the eject button on the console then write down how many red lights are lit up.
then hole the white button down again and press eject and write it down, you need to do this 4 times and it will give you a code that you can give to me and i can then tell you exactly what the fault is ok

so it will be something like this
4 red lights
4 red lights
2 red lights
1 red light

let me know the code then i can tell you exactly whats wrong and what you need to do to solve the problem ok

Thomson DT!6300-16 has stopped working

Usually to fix most odd problems on the Thomson digi box you should do a hard disk format every couple of months, select menu, setup, help,
press green button on remote
this shows advanced menu, press blue button, warning should show,
press green button to proceed
takes about 2mins you lose all recorded programs

If the problem is the box stays at red, and won't switch on,
pull the mains plug wait a few secs then push and hold the the standby
button on the main box (not remote) then insert mains plug, as soon as the
red light flashes release the standby button and very quickly press
menu and OK in that order, don't hang about, it has to be done very quickly
I had to do it several times before I got it right, this loads a preloaded firmware
and the box will come alive again the box will upload new firmware in a couple of hours.
