Let me look around for you.
The plastic front of the computer is the Front Panel. The area of pins on the motherboard that the wires from the Front Panel attach to, is the Front Panel header.
Sometimes there are two Front Panel headers.
This information may be tough to find.
What is needed is the manufacturer name and model number, off of the motherboard.
There were several different motherboard manufacturers used, and several different variations.
I'm going to post two links that may help you with identifying the motherboard manufacturer, and model number.
Look in the middle of the motherboard, around the edges, and in-between any expansion slots on the motherboard, for identifying nomenclature.http://www.ascendtech.us/itemdesc.asp?ic=MB4GWTHRASHER&eq=&Tp=
Going further, there is a motherboard chipset on the motherboard.
The motherboard chipset consists of the Northbridge chip, and the Southbridge chip.
The Northbridge chip will be covered with an aluminum finned Heatsink. It's identifying model number/letters will be covered.
The Southbridge chip usually does not have a Heatsink. It's model number/letters will be easily identifiable.
The Northbridge chip and Southbridge chip are installed in a mated pair.
A specific Southbridge chip will be used with a specific Northbridge chip.
This means that identifying what Southbridge chip is used will lead us to what Northbridge chip is used, without removing the Heatsink off of the Northbridge chip.
This shows you a motherboard diagram, detailing how the motherboard chipset is connected to the rest of the motherboard,http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Motherboard_diagram.svg
This general example of an average motherboard shows you the Northbridge chip, and Southbridge chip,http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:MicroATX_Motherboard_with_AMD_Athlon_Processor_2_Digon3.jpg
Looking in the middle of the motherboard you will note a bl;ack square Heatsink that looks like a meat tenderizer.
This is the Heatsink over the Northbridge chip.
To the left of the Northbridge chip, and to the left of the ram memory slots, is the Southbridge chip.
It has VIA on it in white letters.
State any identifying letter/numbers that you see on the motherboard.
Please state in a Comment.
