Onkyo UK referred me to their UK repairer called GenServe and they were vary helpful, said it was a common fault!  I just happened to live near GenServe and I took it to them and they fixed it in a couple of hours and as it was still under the 2 year warranty, it was fixed for free.  Not sure where you are in the world, but check out their website www.genserve.co.uk

I have onkyo ds 989,how i can reset my ampli, tks

Hi Venobaaurora,

To do the reset you need to turn the receiver on then on the front panel of the receiver press and hold the "VIDEO1" button while doing that press the "POWER" button. You will see the word "Clear" in the display screen and the receiver is reset back to factory default settings. PLEASE UNDERSTAND THAT YOU WILL LOSE ALL YOUR AUDIO & VIDEO ASSIGNMENTS ON THE RECEIVER PLUS YOU WILL LOSE ALL YOUR SPEAKER CONFIGURATIONS, SPEAKER DISTANCE AND ALL LEVEL CALIBRATION SETTINGS. YOU WILL ALSO LOSE ANY PROGRAMMED RADIO STATIONS IN MEMORY. Once the receiver is reset you will need to go thru the setup menu for all custom settings, Thanks, JT

Our dvd has no sound we think we need to reset it but do not know how

Any digital source must have its input assigned (page 31 of the manual). The DVD player has a role in this, too. Try another cable or input.

If you have the manual, crack it open and follow it's advice for your symptom. Then look at every indicator and control to evaluate how it fits into your desired listening experience. UNDERSTAND the receiver or you will forever have issues with losing the 'sound' because a seldom-used control got touched by mistake.

Register and download the manual for free at retrevo.com

http://www.retrevo.com/support/Onkyo-TX-SR503-Receivers-manual/id/365ag216/t/2/

If you still feel a reset is necessary look at page 57 or search the document for "factory defaults".

To reset the AV receiver to its factory defaults, turn it on and, while holding down the [VIDEO 1] button,

press the [STANDBY/ON] button. "Clear" will appear on the display and the AV receiver will enter
Standby mode.

Receiver stays on stand by

Turning On and Standby
On the AV receiver, press the [ON/STANDBY] button.
On the remote controller, press the [RECEIVER] button, followed by the
[ON/STANDBY] button.
The AV receiver comes on, the display lights up, and the STANDBY indicator goes off.
To turn the AV receiver off, press the [ON/STANDBY] button, or press the remote
controller's [ON/STANDBY] button. The AV receiver will enter Standby mode.

If you have any trouble using the receiver, a simple reset could solve your problem.Note that resetting the AV receiver will delete your radio presets and custom settings.
To reset the AV receiver to its factory defaults, turn it on and, while holding down the [VCR/DVR] button, press the [ON/STANDBY] button. "Clear" will appear on the display and the AV receiver will enter Standby mode.

We had a similar problem, but was with the audio side. You can attempt the system reset like this;
Use this procedure to reset all the receiver's settings to
the factory default. Use the front panel controls to do this.
Set MULTI-ZONE to OFF.
1 Switch the receiver into standby.
2 While holding down HOME MENU on the front
panel, press ? STANDBY/ON.
The display shows RESET ? NO ?.
3 Press ENTER on the front panel.
4 Select 'RESET' using ?/?, then press ENTER on
the front panel.
The display shows RESET? OK.
5 Press ENTER to confirm.
OK appears in the display to indicate that the receiver
has been reset to the factory default settings.
Hope this helps. I switched to Onkyo for my receiver.

The reset will wipe out all of your settings. If you remove the power momentarily you will probably clear the problem and not have to go through the setup procedures again. This has worked for me on a number of problems with this product.

This is a common problem on onkyo receivers like the 805, 875 etc. The front panel display board has 2 faulty resistors(marked 9304 & 9310) which can blow out easily. Replacing them with some very basic soldering, resolved the issue for me.

View this link on the AVS forum for detailed instructions .
