If you can boot up your computer, I would back up your data before your hard drives fail completely. It is unusal to have both hard drives go at the same time.
Mere mortals such as me and you cannot repair hard drives, basically buy new ones to replace the faulty drives.
To reinstall Windows on your new hard drive, you will need the Windows XP or Vista CD install disk plus all the device drivers for all the installed devices in your computer (eg. video, audio, LAN etc.) and install those that Windows could not install.
Make sure when you download these device drivers that you select the ones that is specific to the version of the Windows operating system you installing.

Which HD enclosure for WD1200BEVS

That model (you refer to from Amazon) will be ok to connect your disk to a computer by a USB, if your WD1200BEVS is working.

(any 2.5" SATA USB enclosure should work: if it's standard (9.5mm high) [not thin 7mm or a 12.5mm one] - it's just about how much, when, details of construction, extras etc. This one comes with a USB cable - most will.

WD1200BEVS usb cable unplugged while in operation

This disk drive connects with a SATA, not an USB cable. If just it has been detached, and not also the power cable, then most likely just the file that you were transferring was lost - it has been corrupted so find it and delete it.
In the absolute worst case you will have to reformat the drive and lose all the data on it - but this is highly unlikely.

I am having several sata hdd what i noticed is the third connector on the drive 1data 2 power and3?

most SATA hard drives have both the molex and SATA power connectors to work with every PSU (power supply unit). There's a good chance that your third connector is the Molex one, don't worry about it.

Hi govindcg,

This is an early Warning system for computers of a pending Hard Drive failure. I greatly suggest that you back up your files and replace the Hard Drive as this is the only way to fix it. Hope this helps.

Thanks

In my compaq v3000 other 120gb hdd detection is ok but when i connect wd1200bevs then their is no hdd detect in cmos setup, hdd works very fine on usb hdd connector.

One bad lead can cause a computer to continue on a cycle or to shutdown or fail to detect your hard drive
Test the leads that attach to your ((hard drive from the motherboard)) or replace all the leads that attach to your hard drive including electrical extensions + IDE,SATA and the ones that attach from your ((motherboard to hard drive))
make sure all leads that are attached to your drives dvd\cd 3 1/2 inch floppy have secure connections and are not faulty even the electrical extensions or just replace them they are probably old and faulty a computer needs its connections to have an end so any faulty leads will end up with a computer error

hope this helps

My usb connector broke off. whats the best way to fix the situation?

1. This issue will require you to disassemble the device. Which I do not recommend, and you will need some soldering and skills.
2. A qualified tech can repair this or if the drive is under warranty you may be able to return it to the manufacturer for repair for a fee.

The computer reads the hard drive but i dont see a disk drive on' my computer' i.e i cant access the hard drive.

Do the following to see if the hard drive is recognized.

Left Click on control panel
Left Click on administrative tools
Left Click on Computer Management
scroll down the screen until you find disk management
left click on disk management.

see if you device is listed in the disk management window.

If so then, right click on the disk you indicated and select properties.

make sure the disk is active and that windows is reading the basic information.

IF your computer does not recognize the hard disk, you may want to disconnect it and reboot your computer.

then reconnect it, and restart once again.

this allows your bios and operating system the chance to "discover" your hardware again.
