The 9600 video card, I am fairly sure, has a connection on the card itself for power. Have you maybe fogotten to connect the power supply to the video card? If not , try reseating the video card.  A third possibality.. Some MB, if they have on board video, require you to turn off the "on board video" in order for it to use (see) the New PCI video card. Hope this helps.

Here are the spec on your pc if the information you gave me is correct. You can only upgrade the cpu to the socket you have. I think you would be better off adding more RAM and a better video card that isn't onboard. Processor / Chipset
  • Type AMD Athlon X2 7450 / 2.4 GHz
  • Number of Cores Dual-Core
  • 64-bit Computing Yes
  • CPU Qty 1.0
  • Max CPU Qty 1.0

Hello,

Thanks for using fixya.

My name is Carlo.

Your computer might not pass the system requirements that's why it has an error. Or, you can try installing it one more time and check if it will work. Computers do mess up sometimes.

Here's the system requirement of SIMS 3:

Desktop PC (Windows XP + SP2):
CPU: 2ghz Pentium4 Processor or Amd Athlon 2000+ Processor
RAM: 1 GB of RAM
GPU: 128mb Video Card (GeForce FX 5900 or Radeon 9500)

Desktop PC (Windows Vista + SP1):
CPU: 2ghz Pentium4 Processor or Amd Athlon 2400+ Processor
RAM: 1.5 GB of RAM
GPU: 128mb Video Card (GeForce FX 5900 or Radeon 9500)

Laptop (Windows XP + SP2):
CPU: 2ghz Pentium4 Processor or Amd Athlon 2000+ Processor
RAM: 1.5 GB of RAM
GPU: 128mb Video Card (GeForce Go 6200 or Radeon 9600)

Laptop (Windows Vista + SP1):
CPU: 2ghz Pentium4 Processor or Amd Athlon 2400+ Processor
RAM: 2 GB of RAM
GPU: 128mb Video Card (GeForce Go 6200 or Radeon 9600)

IF your computer does not pass the system requirement, then you cannot play sims3 in your computer.

I hope this helps. Thank you for using fixya

MOBO Computer freze or stops or restarts when installing an O.S

I'd try the RAM modules individually, see if any difference.

Try Resetting BIOS Defaults, make sure the RAM timing is correct

install crashes are generally RAM possibly the video card

I think the problem lies with your dual core processor. Under Windows XP, these processors need to have the correct drivers installed to fully take advantage of the fact that they have 2 cores.
Try downloading and installing these drivers from the AMD website:
Dual core optimizer Processor driver
As always, back-up your important data, and preferrably create a restore point before going through with driver updates.
The radical choice is, obviously, to reformat using your own disk, as this should install correct drivers for all your hardware.

My desktop gateway 3 series does not have a video card.....I would like to add one....is it hard to do so ??I want to buy a geforce 9600 or greater...

It is not so difficult as it seems to be.
First ensure that your computer meets the system requirement for installing a particular Video Card. You can get these details on the box of that card.
Once you are ready with all the details and the compatible card, follow the instructions as under:

  1. Turn off your computer and disconnect the power chord
  2. Open the Cover of your computer Tower.
  3. Disconnect the monitor cable from the Onboard VGA
  4. Locate the compatible card slot.
  5. GEForce 9600 would require a pci express slot
  6. Match the notch on the card with the Card slot and insert the card with a slight push.
  7. Fix the card to cabinet with a screw on top
  8. Connect the Monitor cable to the newly installed Video card
  9. Close the cover
  10. Connect the Power cable
  11. Restart the computer
  12. Your operating system will detect the new Video card and prompt you for drivers
  13. Installed the necessary drivers from the CD provided with the Video card
  14. Finish the installation and reboot the system
That's it you have a new Video card installed !!

Please let me know if you need any further help in regards to this.

Thank you for choosing Fixya
