Question about Panasonic PT-51HX40 51" Rear Projection Television

1 Answer

Tv keeps turning off on its own.

About 2 years ago my picture went bad and I had a tech come and they replaced a part which I cant remember what it was, but I understand that is usually goes out after about 5 to 7 years. Picture was perfect again.
However, in the process of fixing it, he messed something up.
My TV would now have a set of numbers that appear in the top left of the screen. (eg. CHK 11750 48444844) The picture was fine, so I tolerated it since it was only a nuisance.
Then the TV would actually change inputs all on its own. Again only a nuisance since I would just change inputs without issue. The TV would also turn off on its own. When it would do this, it would make a loud sound and you would be unable to turn it back on. After about 5 minutes or so, the back of the TV would make a sound, as if it were warming back up, and only then could I turn it back on. I didnt mind it, but now it is happening much more frequently to the point I can't watch TV without it going out after a few minutes. I know my tv is getting old but the picture is still excellent and I was hoping this is fixable.
Thank you

EWF2703 27" TV --won't turn on

A complete circuit board is available BUT would cost you more then a new set. These sets now a days are repaired down to the componet level and these sets have no user replaceable parts. If you have a capacitor checker then maybe you can find on that goes bad in these . there in the sweep supply or in the standby power supply, but if your not a trained electronic tech you should not be experimenting inside this thing. 2 to 3 years is about normal with these things. You can get one for about 100 or so if you looked around. it would probably cost you 125 or so to have a pro fix it. GGood Luck

Wavy picture

this is caused by a bad convergence module, and there are probably some dried out electrolytic caps in the circuit as well. i have one in the shop right now that came in with the same problem. if you have it serviced, make sure they replace all of the convergence modules (there are usually 2, but sometimes 3 of them), because if one went bad the other(s) is likely to go out soon as well.
