Only use Ni-MH or AA-size alkaline batteries. Do not use Ni-Cd (nickel-cadmium) because the heat emitted can damage the camera.
I would suggest using e2 batteries from Energizer.
In the manual, on page 80 there is a description and procedure for discharging Ni-MH batteries (but NOT regular batteries, so don't do this with regular alkaline batteries) AND do not do this when the external power is connected.
Moving on... The discharging of the batteries procedure should happen when:
Follow these instructions:
The screen changes and discharging begins. When the battery level indicator blinks red and discharging ends, the camera turns off.
Remember to not have the camera external battery plugged in so the battery can discharge on it's own.
Then, at this point, recharge the battery using the external battery charger. This helps to "renew" the battery. This is because Ni-MH batteries will remember the last place where they recharged, and too many times, the memory "bookmark" gets marked to low and has to be reset, done by the recharge.
It may be necessary to repeat these steps multiple times. This effect is not because the batteries are deffective. This is a normal side-effect of Ni-MH. This is the reason the camera comes with a discharge feature.
I the batteries are old and don't function even after performing the discharge procedure as part of the normal operation of the camera (like of the year or two), then the batteries may have reached the end of their service life.
Hope this helps, if so, please rate FixYa! ThankYa!

Hi nicoleashley You can send your camera to FUJI and pay $120 or you can try this at home for zip...it worked for me! I to have had focus error problem with my Fuji A310 camera and after much frustration and phone calls i decided to try a different approach to this problem........ I FORMATTED my 64mb XD card in my computer memory card reader using the FAT setting and guess what my camera is magically working now..... Why couldn't FUJI helpline have told me this when i spoke to them, answer because they were to preoccupied in trying to sell me a new camera!!!!!as if, there service is nonexistent and proven!!!!! Why is it called a HELPLINE then should rename it "FUJI RESELL LINE" hey....or maybe "FUJI NON HELPLINE" Also formatted 16mb card same way and working also, maybe i should get a job at FUJI hey only problem is i wouldn't endorse there products, very good picture quality in an unreliable package..suggest any better brand for next time nicoleashley ? ADDENDUM TO PREVIOUS SOLUTION FROM JIM PINEAPPLE--- After you have formatted the XD Card in your computer card reader reinstall card to camera and using the camera software format the card again, this prepares the card to accept it's normal data... P.S. I called the Fuji Ha Ha Helpline here in AUSTRALIA and informed them of this procedure so as to help all the poor souls like us that purchased our only Fuji digital camera, as if they didn't know already, and the moral of the story is as of 27-8-2007 Fuji would be absolute Mongrels to not inform via there helpline how to fix there very common "FOCUS ERROR" problem which is common across the Fuji digital camera range, just google FUJI FOCUS ERROR.... Happy Snapping JIM PINEAPPLE

my A360 digital wont turn on it flashes green then goes off i put new batteries in it
SOURCE: have fujifilm finepix f40fd. protected card shows. wont clear
I had the same problem with a Fufifilm camera. When I looked closely at the memory card I noticed a little white sliding button on the left hand side. When it is in the down position the card is locked or protected. Just slide the button up and put it back in your camera and it should work.
SOURCE: Fujifilm FinePix 3800 flash will not work
Normally when the flash stops working it is because the capacitor the camera uses to store the flash power ( that is what charges..not the bulb) burns out. This is a very difficult repair and should only be completed by a camera technician.
If the repair is over 10 dollars I would suggest a new camera.
