Question about Gateway 700 XL PC Desktop

Dvd cd rom drive reads code 10 on Satellite A205-S5825 laptop

I inserted a DVD and a CD into the dvd/cd rom drive and it doesn't respond at all. We purchase the toshiba laptop in May 08 and it worked fine until now. I changed the settings to action as it directs from system and it still doesn't do anything. I attempted to just listen to my CD from media center and try to burn but it wouldn't read the cd. It keeps asking to make sure the PC is connected, while it is installed in the laptop. The toshiba dvd player brings up message stating the software could not be located. I have checked the device manager and ran a system check and a message pops up stating "the device cannot start Code 10 and it doesn't allow it to go through. Please help me with this for I'd like to burn CD's and play DVD's. I appreciate all your help.

1. update the driver: go the toshiba website, go to support, provide system info and look for knowledge base info related to your problem and also look for possible driver updates - post the model of your laptop and we'll help getting the page for ya!

make sure the device is enabled in windows and in the bios.
also disable any advance features (check with toshiba if you have any.. .and make sure your driver is updated before), lastly play around with the settings (make sure the driver is updated before doing this)

and remember to try one thing at a time, test, then move on to try something else.. be patient and methodic.

The DVD-ROM drive will not open to release the DVD when the button is pushed on the drive. RESOLUTION:
  1. Shut down the program that you are installing or running that uses the DVD-ROM drive.
  2. Wait 10 to 15 seconds, and then open the DVD-ROM drive by pushing the eject button on the DVD-ROM drive.
  3. If the DVD-ROM drive door still does not open, do the following:
    • Insert a paper clip or small pointed object into the small hole near the button on the DVD-ROM door.
      Gently push in the paper clip until the DVD-ROM door opens.
    • Remove the CD from the drive.

Dvd+rw nd-2100ad no disk in drive error


Can you see DVD-RW drives indicator busy when you insert that disk for a long time? if so, your drive may not going to read that disk. If it is in case of CD disk, sometimes DVD-RW just can't read it while very old CD-ROM can read! If this happens in case of other CD/DVD witch is readable by other DVD-RW, You may just try to clean the lens of your drive.

I can't insert any cd's.


Maybe the laser eye is jammed. It tracks back and forth reading data from the disc.
You may either replace the drive or have it repaired.
I had one on my PC do the same vibrating, clicking noise. It only cost 40.00 to replace.
But for a laptop, you're looking between 60-100 dollars to replace.
You can see how much it would cost to repair first, but my guess is it would be cheaper to replace.

first reinstall the operating system and then you use either nero 6 or NTI CD? DVD maker

My computer will not read any of my disk or install


when you say disk did you mean hard disk? if you do... did you recenlty install a new hard disks?... if you did... did you check the jumper-master-slave configuration when installing the new hard disk?
only one hard disk can be configured as master in each ide channel. set up to master (not single) the one on the end of the ide cable and set up to slave the one attached to the midlle of the ide cable.
check that both hard drives are properly attached to the cable and that the power cable is properly seated.

when you say disk did you mean cd rom disks or dvd disks?
does it work in other computers? if it doesnt.. you cd/dvd disks may be the problem
are you trying to read a dvd disk on a cd rom only drive... you can't read a dvd in a cd rom drive.
if you cd/dvd rom drive should read the disk you're putting in, check in device manager if your system detects the cd/dvd rom drive. if it doesn't: check the physical connections (reseat ide cable, check jumper configuration for slave and master on your cd/dvd rom drive and check that the power cable is properly seated), check also in device manager the properties of the cd/dvd rom drive and check if it says on device status if the device is working correctly. if it doesn't post the error code that it may give you or google a solution with error code.

suggestion.. be more specific when posting your questions.. that way it will be easier for a solution to be provided as your issue could be interpreted in different ways

Hi,
Check the cd-rom power is on or not. Then also if its not reading then Insert an DVD/CD cleaner disk and follow the steps. The cleaner disk is available in any of the computer shops. There may be some lens problem. After trying above steps if again same problem occurs then you need to replace the cd/dvd rom drive. Thank you.........

Dvd fault


your laser is faulty and is only able to read cd tracks, the reason being that dvd's data is packed closer together than a cd, and when the laser is failing it can only read wider burned data tracks on cd's.

You will have to replace the drive

DVD Drive Troubles


This can be due to the reason that the certain cd roms cannot be read by your drive. please insert and check other brand cd roms...if they run then the cd rom u r using cannot be read by ur Cd.dvdw DVD drive
